Which companies sponsor visas for physicists in Colorado?
National laboratories and defense contractors are the most active sponsors. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Lockheed Martin, Ball Aerospace, and Raytheon Technologies have all filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications for physics-related roles. University of Colorado Boulder and Colorado State University also sponsor visas for research physicist and postdoctoral positions.
Which visa types are most common for physics roles in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physicists in Colorado, as physics roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in physics or a closely related field. Postdoctoral and academic research positions at universities sometimes use J-1 visas. Physicists with extraordinary achievement may also qualify for the O-1A. Permanent residency pathways through EB-1A or EB-2 NIW are common for researchers with peer-reviewed publication records.
How to find physics visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate filters physics job listings in Colorado specifically to roles where employers have demonstrated visa sponsorship willingness, saving you the work of screening hundreds of postings manually. Because physics hiring in Colorado is concentrated in federal labs, aerospace contractors, and universities, Migrate Mate's Colorado physics feed surfaces relevant openings across Boulder, Golden, Denver, and Fort Collins from employers with established sponsorship track records.
Which cities in Colorado have the most physics sponsorship jobs?
Boulder is the most active city, anchored by NIST, NREL, the University of Colorado Boulder, and a dense cluster of aerospace and quantum technology startups. Denver and the surrounding metro, including Golden and Englewood, add defense contractor presence from Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Ball Aerospace. Fort Collins hosts Colorado State University research programs. These four areas account for the majority of physics sponsorship activity in the state.
Are there any Colorado-specific factors that affect physics visa sponsorship?
Colorado's physics hiring is heavily tied to federal contract cycles and national laboratory funding, which can affect when positions open and whether sponsorship is available. Positions at federally funded facilities like NREL and NIST may require security clearances, and non-U.S. citizens face eligibility restrictions for certain clearance levels, which can limit the pool of sponsorable roles. University-affiliated positions in Boulder and Fort Collins tend to have more accessible sponsorship pathways for international physicists.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physics jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
