The Department of Physics at Loyola University New Orleans seeks highly qualified applicants for a Professor of the Practice position to begin teaching introductory courses for majors and non-majors in Fall 2026. This is a one-year-only position.
Examples of Duties
- Teach four courses per semester. These include lectures and laboratories for physics majors, for science majors and for non-science students.
- Teaching assignments are based on needs of students and department and may include Physics for Life Sciences, Intro Mechanics, Intro Electricity & Magnetism, Intro to Physics and Engineering, and introductory courses for non-science majors such as Physics of Sound and Astronomy.
- Maintain weekly office hours.
- Manage course content and post grades in Canvas LMS.
- Assist with advising Physics majors.
- An active research program that can involve undergraduate students is desirable but not required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Minimum Master's degree in Physics or related field. PhD in Physics or related field preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to rigorous, innovative, and inclusive teaching.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Teaching is primarily in person and on campus.
In accordance with the Campus Security Act as amended, Loyola University publishes annually and distributes to members of the academic community, and upon request to prospective (students/employees), an annual security report. That report includes current policies and procedures of the University Police Department for the reporting of campus crimes, notifying the campus community of occurrence of campus crimes, policies regarding access to campus buildings, the enforcement authority of the University Police Officers and their relationship to local police. University policies on the possession, use and sale of alcohol and illegal drugs are outlined. The Campus sexual Assault Program and policy is described. Campus crime statistics as defined under this law for the last three calendar years are included. A copy of this report may be secured from the (Office of Admissions), (Office of Human Resources), or from the University Police Department.
