Which companies sponsor visas for electrical engineering technicians in Florida?
Defense and aerospace contractors are among the most active sponsors for electrical engineering technicians in Florida. L3Harris, headquartered in Melbourne, Lockheed Martin's Orlando operations, and Raytheon's Florida sites have all filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications for technician-level roles. Larger utility and infrastructure firms operating in South Florida also sponsor periodically, though defense remains the dominant hiring sector for this occupation in the state.
Which visa types are most common for electrical engineering technician roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa pathway for electrical engineering technicians in Florida, provided the role meets the specialty occupation standard, meaning it typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA. Australians can explore the E-3 visa, which follows a similar process to the H-1B but without the lottery.
Which cities in Florida have the most electrical engineering technician sponsorship jobs?
Melbourne and the broader Space Coast corridor lead Florida for electrical engineering technician sponsorship, anchored by L3Harris and aerospace suppliers clustered around Kennedy Space Center. Orlando is a close second, with Lockheed Martin and Siemens Energy maintaining significant presences. Jacksonville's naval support industry generates consistent demand, and Tampa's growing defense technology sector has added sponsoring employers in recent years.
How to find electrical engineering technician visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, saving you from sorting through postings that won't support international candidates. For electrical engineering technician roles in Florida, you can narrow results by state and job category to surface active openings at defense contractors, aerospace suppliers, and utilities. Reviewing employer LCA filing history alongside current listings gives you a clearer picture of genuine sponsorship intent.
What should international electrical engineering technicians know about working in Florida?
Florida has no state income tax, which affects how total compensation compares to other states, though prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules are set at the federal level using Bureau of Labor Statistics data for each metro area. Many Florida defense employers require security clearances, which can create complications for non-U.S. citizens and may limit access to certain roles even with valid work authorization. Confirming clearance eligibility early in the hiring process is important.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical engineering technician jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
