Join our team as a Golf Course Superintendent and lead all course maintenance operations for Elkhorn Golf Club to keep our grounds in top playing condition. You’ll oversee turf care, irrigation systems, equipment, budgeting, and a dedicated maintenance team. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of the annual maintenance budget and operating plan. Implement the program according to Company operating policies and procedures to ensure cost containment.
- Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved.
- Supervise developing and maintaining drainage, irrigation, pumping, and water reservoir systems.
- Supervise all planting, fertilizing, and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees on the golf course and grounds. Assist with developing and implementing fertilizer, aeration, and Integrated Pest Management program for proper turf grass and plant care.
- Supervise equipment maintenance and repair operations. Establish and implement a cleaning and preventative maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, vehicles, etc.
- Ensure maintenance of all appropriate quality and cleanliness standards including, but not limited to, employee hygiene and uniforms, equipment repair areas, equipment storage areas, chemical and fertilizer storage areas, receiving areas, washing areas, lunch-room areas, restrooms, etc.
- Monitor the purchase ordering and receiving program to maintain proper inventories of supplies and ensure the appropriate quantity and price on all purchases.
- Manage employment activities for applicable staff members, including personnel recruitment and selection, performance evaluations, training, compensation, discipline, termination, etc.
- Maintain accurate records of department activities including, but not limited to, labor schedules, course maintenance, construction activities, equipment repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications, and pest control practices. Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required operational, financial, budget, and related reports.
Qualifications
- Two or four-year degree/certificate in a related field preferred or equivalent experience; at least four-plus years of golf course maintenance experience in agronomy or turf grass sciences or golf course superintendent certification.
- Irrigation experience is preferred.
- A working knowledge of golf construction principles, practices, and methods and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License required.
- Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, leadership qualities, and administrative and executive ability, especially in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Requires current state licensing as a pesticide applicator or ability to obtain within 90 days (about 3 months).
- Requires knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of the golf course operations – including employment, safety regulations, and environmental standards and rules.
- Engage in physical activities like standing for long periods, walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, and reaching.
- Capable of safely lifting and/or moving up to 45 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Must be highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
