Which companies in Illinois sponsor visas for AI/ML engineers?
Several Illinois employers have a consistent track record of sponsoring work visas for AI/ML engineers. Motorola Solutions, Tempus, Relativity, and Uptake are among the Chicago-based companies that regularly file H-1B visa petitions for engineering roles. Large financial institutions with Chicago offices, including trading firms and insurance companies, also sponsor AI and machine learning talent at scale.
Which visa types are most common for AI/ML engineer roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for AI/ML engineers in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, data science, or a related field. Candidates already holding an F-1 with OPT or STEM OPT extension can work while an H-1B petition is pending. Those with extraordinary research profiles may also pursue the O-1A.
Which cities in Illinois have the most AI/ML engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of AI/ML engineer sponsorship activity in Illinois. The River North, West Loop, and Fulton Market neighborhoods host a high concentration of tech employers and AI-focused startups. Outside Chicago, Urbana-Champaign sees some activity tied to the University of Illinois research ecosystem, though most sponsored industry roles are concentrated in the city.
How to find ai ml engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa-sponsored AI/ML engineer roles in Illinois. You can filter jobs by state and role to see only employers actively open to sponsorship, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying and being screened out at the offer stage. Given how competitive Chicago's AI market is, targeting confirmed-sponsorship listings is a more efficient use of your job search time.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for AI/ML engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B visas must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the specific role and location, which in Chicago reflects one of the higher-cost metro designations. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign produces a significant volume of AI/ML graduates who enter the sponsorship pipeline annually, meaning competition from OPT candidates is particularly strong in this state. Candidates with specialized skills in healthcare AI or quantitative finance tend to find stronger demand among Illinois's employer base.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai ml engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
