Which companies sponsor visas for project controls managers in Illinois?
Engineering and construction firms are the primary sponsors for project controls managers in Illinois. Companies like AECOM, Fluor, Skanska, and Jacobs have filed H-1B visa petitions for project controls and cost engineering roles in the Chicago metro. Utilities and infrastructure operators, including ComEd parent Exelon, also sponsor for capital program controls positions. Sponsorship activity is concentrated among firms managing large, long-duration capital projects.
Which visa types are most common for project controls manager roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project controls managers in Illinois, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN visa status under the engineer or scientist categories. Those with significant international project experience and recognition may explore the O-1A, though that pathway has a higher documentation burden.
Which cities in Illinois have the most project controls manager sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of project controls manager sponsorship activity in Illinois. The city's concentration of engineering consultancies, general contractors, and utility companies with active capital programs drives consistent demand. Suburban Cook County and areas like Joliet and Aurora see additional activity tied to infrastructure and industrial construction projects. Downstate Illinois has limited sponsorship volume for this role outside of specific large capital programs.
How to find project controls manager visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search project controls manager roles in Illinois without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from engineering firms, contractors, and owners actively sponsoring in the state. Filtering by Illinois and the project controls discipline helps narrow results to employers with a demonstrated history of H-1B and other sponsorship filings.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for project controls managers in Illinois?
Illinois follows federal prevailing wage requirements for H-1B sponsorship, determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific metropolitan area and job classification. Chicago is a high-wage metro, so the prevailing wage floor for project controls managers is set accordingly. Illinois also has a significant pipeline of international engineering talent from universities like the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Illinois Institute of Technology, which influences how familiar major employers are with sponsoring this role.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project controls manager jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
