Which companies sponsor visas for tax senior associates in Illinois?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, are the most active sponsors for tax senior associates in Illinois and have established visa sponsorship programs. Mid-tier firms like Grant Thornton and RSM, both headquartered in Chicago, also sponsor regularly. Large corporate tax departments at Illinois-based companies in financial services, manufacturing, and insurance hire sponsored tax professionals as well.
Which visa types are most common for tax senior associate roles in Illinois?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for tax senior associates in Illinois, as these roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field. Candidates with an active OPT or STEM OPT period often secure offers first and transition to H-1B sponsorship. The TN visa is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying credentials.
Which cities in Illinois have the most tax senior associate sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the vast majority of tax senior associate sponsorship opportunities in Illinois. The Loop and Streeterville neighborhoods house the largest accounting firm offices, and the broader Chicago metro area includes suburban offices in Schaumburg, Naperville, and Oak Brook where mid-market firms and corporate tax departments also hire. Outside Chicago, Peoria and Rockford have limited activity primarily tied to regional accounting firms.
How to find tax senior associate visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and it filters directly for tax senior associate roles in Illinois. Rather than sorting through thousands of listings where sponsorship willingness is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces employers that have a documented history of sponsoring work visas for tax professionals, making it a more targeted starting point for your Illinois job search.
Are there state-specific considerations for tax senior associates pursuing sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois has a significant concentration of CPA exam candidates and accounting graduates from universities like University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, DePaul, and Loyola, which means competition for sponsored roles is high. Employers filing H-1B petitions for tax senior associates in Illinois must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements specific to the Chicago metropolitan statistical area, which are reviewed against wage levels for the role's complexity and seniority.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax senior associate jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
