Tips for Finding TN Sponsorship Jobs in Iowa
Target Iowa's major health systems directly
UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and University of Iowa Health Care are among the largest employers in the state and regularly hire TN-eligible roles in nursing, therapy, pharmacy, and medical technology. Check their career portals directly and filter by professional roles.
Focus your search on Des Moines's insurance and financial sector
Des Moines is a national hub for insurance and financial services, with firms like Principal Financial, Nationwide, and Wellmark headquartered there. These companies hire accountants, engineers, and computer systems analysts, all of which are TN-qualifying occupations.
Use a TN-specific job board to filter Iowa openings
Generic job boards don't filter for visa sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate lets you search Iowa jobs specifically tagged for TN sponsorship, saving time you'd otherwise spend screening employers who won't consider international candidates.
Prioritize employers with existing TN filing history
Companies that have previously sponsored TN workers understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw offers over visa concerns. Reviewing DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data reveals which Iowa employers have a documented TN or H-1B filing track record.
Look beyond Des Moines to Cedar Rapids and Iowa City
Cedar Rapids hosts Rockwell Collins (now Collins Aerospace) and large manufacturing operations that need engineers and scientists. Iowa City's presence of the University of Iowa creates demand for TN-eligible roles in research, healthcare, and scientific fields.
Align your job title precisely with TN schedule categories
Iowa employers advertising roles like 'data analyst' or 'project manager' may not always map cleanly to TN-qualifying titles. Before applying, confirm the job description aligns with recognized TN categories such as Computer Systems Analyst, Engineer, or Accountant.

Which industries in Iowa sponsor the most TN visas?
Healthcare, engineering, and information technology are the leading industries for TN visa sponsorship in Iowa. The state's large regional health networks drive consistent demand for nurses, physical therapists, and medical technologists. Manufacturing and agricultural technology firms in the Cedar Rapids and Waterloo corridors regularly sponsor engineers and scientists, while Des Moines's insurance and financial services sector hires accountants and computer systems analysts.
Which cities in Iowa have the most TN sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines has the highest concentration of TN-sponsoring employers, driven by its insurance, financial services, and healthcare sectors. Cedar Rapids follows closely with its manufacturing base and aerospace industry anchored by Collins Aerospace. Iowa City generates steady demand through the University of Iowa and associated health system. Davenport, as part of the Quad Cities metro, also offers engineering and healthcare openings.
What types of roles typically qualify for TN sponsorship in Iowa?
In Iowa, the most common TN-qualifying roles fall under engineering, computer systems analysis, accounting, scientific research, and healthcare occupations including nursing and physical therapy. Agricultural scientists and environmental engineers also find opportunities given Iowa's agricultural economy. The key requirement is that the role must match a designated TN occupation category and require at least a relevant bachelor's degree.
How do I find TN sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search Iowa jobs filtered specifically for TN visa sponsorship, avoiding the manual work of screening employers on generic platforms. Beyond that, target Iowa's largest employers directly, particularly major health systems and engineering firms with documented sponsorship history. Reviewing DOL LCA disclosure data for Iowa-based filings also identifies companies that have recently sponsored TN or H-1B visa workers.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for TN sponsorship I should know about?
Iowa does not impose any state-level visa or work authorization requirements beyond federal rules, so the standard TN process applies. However, licensed occupations such as nursing and physical therapy require Iowa state licensure in addition to TN status, meaning you'll need to initiate the Iowa Board of Nursing or relevant licensing board application early. Healthcare employers in Iowa typically expect proof of licensure eligibility before extending a formal offer.
