Which companies sponsor visas for physicists in Kansas?
The most active sponsors for physics roles in Kansas include Spirit AeroSystems, Raytheon Technologies, and federal contractors operating near Wichita's aerospace corridor. Research universities such as Kansas State University and the University of Kansas also sponsor physicists for faculty and postdoctoral positions. National laboratories with Kansas affiliations occasionally post roles requiring H-1B or J-1 sponsorship for research scientists.
Which visa types are most common for physics roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physics positions in Kansas, covering roles in research, engineering physics, and applied sciences at private employers. The J-1 is frequently used for postdoctoral researchers and visiting scientists at Kansas universities. O-1A visas are an option for physicists with exceptional records, such as published research or awards, though employer familiarity with this category varies.
Which cities in Kansas have the most physics sponsorship jobs?
Wichita leads Kansas for physics sponsorship activity, driven by its aerospace and defense manufacturing base. Manhattan is the next most active city due to Kansas State University's physics and engineering research programs. Lawrence, home to the University of Kansas, also generates sponsorship opportunities, particularly for academic and research physicist roles. Overland Park occasionally sees openings tied to regional technology and defense firms.
How to find physics visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate aggregates visa-sponsored physics positions specifically in Kansas, filtering out roles where sponsorship is not confirmed. You can browse current openings across Wichita, Lawrence, and Manhattan employers without sorting through listings that exclude international candidates. Migrate Mate focuses on roles where employers have a documented history of H-1B or other sponsorship, making it more efficient than searching general job boards for physics roles in Kansas.
Are there state-specific considerations for physicists seeking visa sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas physics hiring is heavily tied to aerospace, defense, and academic research, meaning many roles require security clearances that non-U.S. citizens cannot immediately obtain, which narrows sponsorship-eligible openings. University postdoc pipelines at KSU and KU are a reliable entry point for international physicists, as these institutions have established H-1B and J-1 sponsorship processes. Prevailing wage requirements for physics roles are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific job title and location within Kansas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physics jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
