Which companies sponsor visas for embedded software engineers in Massachusetts?
Several large employers in Massachusetts have established records of sponsoring work visas for embedded software engineers. Raytheon Technologies and L3Harris sponsor extensively for defense and aerospace firmware roles. In the medical device space, Boston Scientific and Medtronic hire embedded engineers with visa sponsorship. Semiconductor and EDA companies including Analog Devices and Cadence Design Systems also regularly sponsor candidates for roles in the greater Boston and Route 128 corridor.
Which visa types are most common for embedded software engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for embedded software engineers in Massachusetts, as the role typically meets the specialty occupation requirement given its reliance on computer engineering or electrical engineering degrees. Some employers, particularly in defense contracting, also sponsor EB-2 and EB-3 green card petitions. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and those from Canada or Mexico may be eligible under the TN visa classification.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most embedded software engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Route 128 corridor, running through Waltham, Burlington, and Lexington, is the densest concentration of embedded engineering employers in the state. Boston and Cambridge host firmware and systems roles at startups and research-driven companies. Lowell has a presence in semiconductor and communications hardware firms. Andover is home to defense electronics employers including Raytheon. Worcester also has a growing embedded systems hiring base tied to manufacturing and medical technology companies.
How to find embedded software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify embedded software engineer openings in Massachusetts without sorting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by role and state to see active listings from employers who have indicated willingness to sponsor. This is particularly useful in Massachusetts, where sponsoring employers span defense, medical devices, and semiconductor industries across multiple hiring corridors.
Are there any state-specific considerations for embedded software engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a high concentration of defense contractors that require security clearances, which can complicate sponsorship for foreign nationals since most clearance-eligible positions require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. Non-defense embedded roles in medical devices and semiconductors face fewer restrictions. Massachusetts is also home to MIT, Northeastern, and UMass Lowell, which generate strong OPT pipelines for embedded engineering roles, meaning some employers are already familiar with the visa sponsorship process for this field.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored embedded software engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
