Which companies sponsor visas for mental health therapists in Massachusetts?
Major health systems are the most consistent sponsors in Massachusetts. Mass General Brigham, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, McLean Hospital, and Boston Medical Center have documented histories of H-1B sponsorship for licensed clinical roles. Community mental health centers funded through the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health also sponsor international clinicians, particularly for roles in underserved areas where recruitment is competitive.
Which visa types are most common for mental health therapy roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed mental health therapists in Massachusetts, as roles requiring a master's degree in clinical social work, counseling, or psychology typically qualify as specialty occupations. J-1 visas are also used, particularly for post-graduate clinical training at academic medical centers like McLean or Massachusetts General Hospital. Conrad 30 J-1 waivers are available for therapists willing to work in underserved communities.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most mental health therapy sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge concentrate the largest share of mental health therapy sponsorship roles, anchored by academic medical centers and large behavioral health networks. Worcester is a growing secondary market, home to UMass Memorial Health and several federally qualified health centers. Springfield and Lowell have active community mental health centers with demonstrated sponsorship activity, often tied to state and federal funding for underserved populations.
How to find mental health therapy visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find mental health therapy visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts specifically. The platform filters roles by state and visa sponsorship status, so you are not sorting through positions that do not apply to international candidates. Search for licensed clinical social worker, licensed mental health counselor, and clinical psychologist roles filtered to Massachusetts to see current verified openings from employers with sponsorship history.
Are there state-specific considerations for mental health therapists seeking visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts requires independent licensure, such as the LICSW, LMHC, or licensed psychologist designation, for most billable clinical roles, which directly affects whether a position qualifies for H-1B sponsorship as a specialty occupation. Employers filing Labor Condition Applications must meet Massachusetts prevailing wage standards, which are set at the higher end nationally given the Boston-area cost of living. Credential evaluation and state board approval timelines should be factored into your job search planning.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health therapy jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
