Which companies sponsor visas for psychiatrists in Massachusetts?
Mass General Brigham, Boston Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, UMass Memorial Health, and McLean Hospital are among the larger health systems with documented H-1B visa sponsorship history for psychiatrists in Massachusetts. Academic medical centers affiliated with Harvard, Tufts, and Boston University Medical School also sponsor international psychiatry residents and fellows transitioning to attending roles.
Which visa types are most common for psychiatrist roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the primary visa for psychiatrists in Massachusetts, as the role meets USCIS specialty occupation requirements given its mandatory medical degree. The J-1 visa waiver pathway is also common, particularly through the Conrad 30 program, which allows international medical graduates to satisfy their two-year home residency requirement by working in underserved areas. Some positions are eligible for O-1 visa or EB-2 NIW sponsorship for candidates with research distinction.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most psychiatrist sponsorship jobs?
Boston has the highest concentration of psychiatrist sponsorship opportunities, anchored by its dense network of academic medical centers and specialty hospitals. Worcester is the second-largest hub, with UMass Memorial Health and community mental health organizations actively hiring. Springfield and the Pioneer Valley region also have consistent demand, particularly for psychiatrists willing to serve federally designated mental health shortage areas, which strengthens J-1 waiver eligibility.
How to find psychiatrist visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters psychiatrist job listings specifically to employers who sponsor visas, saving time compared to sorting through general job postings. You can search by state to see Massachusetts-specific openings across hospitals, community mental health centers, and academic systems. For psychiatrists, filtering by H-1B or J-1 waiver-eligible roles helps identify positions where international candidates are a realistic fit from the outset.
Are there state-specific considerations for psychiatrists seeking visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts requires full medical licensure from the Board of Registration in Medicine, and international medical graduates must meet the same USMLE and postgraduate training requirements as domestic applicants. The state has a high number of HPSA-designated mental health shortage areas, which expands J-1 Conrad 30 waiver opportunities. Massachusetts also has a relatively active market for telepsychiatry roles, though visa sponsorship eligibility for fully remote positions depends on where the employer entity is based.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored psychiatrist jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
