Which companies sponsor visas for psychiatrists in New York?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors. NYC Health + Hospitals, Northwell Health, Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Health System, and NYU Langone Health have all filed Labor Condition Applications for psychiatrist roles. Academic medical centers affiliated with major universities tend to have dedicated international hiring infrastructure, making them more experienced with the sponsorship process than smaller private practices.
Which visa types are most common for psychiatrist roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for psychiatrists in New York, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a medical degree. The J-1 visa is also widely used, particularly through residency and fellowship programs at teaching hospitals. Some employers use the O-1A for psychiatrists with exceptional professional recognition. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the USMCA.
Which cities in New York have the most psychiatrist sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the majority of psychiatrist sponsorship opportunities in the state, driven by its concentration of major hospital systems, academic medical centers, and community mental health organizations. Buffalo has a growing presence through the University at Buffalo health network. Albany and Rochester also have sponsoring employers, primarily through regional hospital systems and state-affiliated healthcare institutions.
How to find psychiatrist visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles, including psychiatrist positions in New York. You can filter directly by state and job title to see employers who have a documented history of sponsoring visas for this role. This is more efficient than searching general job boards where sponsorship willingness is rarely disclosed upfront.
Are there state-specific considerations for psychiatrists seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York requires a full medical license from the New York State Education Department before practicing independently, though some employers will sponsor candidates who hold a license in another state and are pursuing New York licensure concurrently. The state has significant demand in underserved areas, and positions at federally qualified health centers or shortage-area facilities may qualify for National Interest Waiver pathways, which remove the need for employer sponsorship entirely.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored psychiatrist jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
