Which companies sponsor visas for AI product engineers in Michigan?
Michigan's largest visa sponsors for AI and software engineering roles include Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis, all of which file significant numbers of H-1B petitions annually. Beyond automotive, companies like Quicken Loans parent Rocket Companies in Detroit and several Ann Arbor-based technology firms have active sponsorship histories. University-affiliated research labs and healthcare systems such as Henry Ford Health also sponsor engineers in AI-adjacent roles.
Which visa types are most common for AI product engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for AI product engineers in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, AI, or a related field. Candidates with exceptional records in research or commercial AI development may qualify for the O-1A. International students completing degrees at University of Michigan or Michigan State often begin on OPT before their employer files an H-1B petition.
Which cities in Michigan have the most AI product engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its metro area generate the highest volume of AI product engineer sponsorship opportunities, driven by automotive technology and fintech employers. Ann Arbor is a close second, benefiting from University of Michigan's engineering output and a concentrated cluster of AI startups and research-focused companies. Grand Rapids has a smaller but growing technology sector. Remote-friendly roles headquartered in Michigan also allow candidates to work from other cities within the state.
How to find ai product engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles, making it a practical starting point for AI product engineer jobs in Michigan. You can filter by state and role to surface employers with active sponsorship histories in the Michigan market. Because the platform focuses on sponsorship-confirmed listings, it saves time compared to manually reviewing job postings that may not address visa support at all.
Are there state-specific considerations for AI product engineers seeking sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's concentration in automotive and mobility tech means AI product engineers often work at the intersection of software and hardware systems, which can shape how employers define the specialty occupation criteria on H-1B petitions. The University of Michigan and Michigan State University produce strong graduate pipelines that employers actively recruit from, making OPT-to-H-1B transitions common. Prevailing wage requirements apply statewide based on the specific job location and role classification, which employers determine through Department of Labor filings.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai product engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
