Job Description
The AI Center of Excellence is seeking a Senior AI Product Manager to help shape the bank's future AI capabilities beyond the current planning horizon. This role operates at the intersection of emerging technology, product strategy, platform evolution, and business transformation.
Unlike traditional product management roles focused on near-term delivery, this position is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and informing future AI opportunities, technologies, and partnerships that could materially impact the bank over the next several years. The individual will work closely with AI Strategy, AI Platform Product Management, Architecture, and senior leadership to understand where the industry is heading and translate those insights into actionable recommendations for the enterprise.
This role requires intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a strong ability to navigate ambiguity. Success is measured less by the volume of initiatives launched and more by the quality of strategic recommendations, insights generated, and future opportunities uncovered.
Key Responsibilities
Shape the Future AI Roadmap
- Identify emerging AI capabilities, technology trends, and market developments that may influence the bank's long-term AI strategy.
- Develop and maintain a forward-looking view of AI technologies, vendors, and industry solutions that extend beyond current delivery priorities.
- Partner with AI Strategy and AI Platform Product Management to ensure future opportunities align to the bank's evolving AI vision and platform direction.
- Evaluate where external capabilities may accelerate or complement internal investments.
Scout and Assess Emerging Solutions
- Continuously monitor the AI ecosystem, including startups, established technology providers, academic research, and emerging market trends.
- Conduct strategic evaluations of vendors and platforms, assessing their applicability, maturity, risks, and alignment with future business needs.
- Build comparative assessments and recommendation frameworks to support executive decision-making.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on emerging technologies and competitive developments.
Explore, Experiment, and Learn
- Conduct lightweight discovery efforts, proofs of concept, and exploratory prototyping to validate strategic ideas and technology opportunities.
- Utilize modern AI tools and platforms to rapidly assess capabilities and understand technical feasibility.
- Distill complex technical concepts into business implications and strategic choices.
- Pursue opportunities that may have uncertain outcomes while maintaining disciplined evaluation criteria.
Inform Executive Decision-Making
- Synthesize market intelligence, technology assessments, and experimentation results into concise recommendations for senior leaders.
- Highlight strategic tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, and considerations associated with future investments.
- Influence roadmap discussions through evidence-based insights rather than formal authority.
- Help leadership navigate significant technology decisions in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
This role is best suited for a product leader who enjoys exploring emerging technologies, evaluating future possibilities, and influencing strategy through insight and expertise. It is not primarily a people management or large-scale delivery execution role.
Basic Qualifications
- Digital Product Management experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
Strategic Thinking
- Demonstrated ability to think beyond immediate delivery horizons and anticipate future technology needs.
- Strong understanding of AI market dynamics, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
- Experience developing product strategy, technology evaluations, or innovation roadmaps.
Technical Aptitude
- Working knowledge of modern AI technologies, including foundation models, AI platforms, agentic systems, orchestration frameworks, and related tooling.
- Ability to build simple prototypes, perform hands-on experimentation, and evaluate technical capabilities.
- Comfortable engaging with technical teams, architects, and platform leaders, even without direct engineering ownership.
Research and Evaluation Skills
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills.
- Ability to assess emerging technologies with incomplete information and evolving market signals.
- Experience evaluating vendors, technology partnerships, and buy-versus-build decisions.
Leadership and Influence
- Proven ability to operate independently with minimal oversight.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous environments where exploration often precedes clear requirements.
- Strong executive communication skills with the ability to distill complex topics into actionable recommendations.
- Track record of influencing decisions across functions without direct authority.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is naturally curious about technology and passionate about AI. They actively follow industry developments, consume research and thought leadership, and enjoy exploring emerging capabilities long before they become mainstream. They are energized by discovery work, comfortable taking calculated swings into uncertain areas, and capable of independently narrowing a broad landscape of possibilities into a small number of compelling opportunities.
This individual is trusted to explore widely, think critically, challenge assumptions, and return with the insights and considerations that help leadership make better long-term decisions. They thrive in environments with high autonomy, limited structure, and significant ambiguity, and are motivated by shaping the future rather than managing a large delivery team.

Which companies sponsor visas for AI product engineers in Illinois?
Chicago-headquartered employers with active AI product engineering hiring include Motorola Solutions, Allstate, Salesforce, and Groupon. Major consulting and technology firms such as Accenture, Deloitte, and Thoughtworks also have large Illinois offices and established sponsorship programs. Enterprise software companies and fintech firms in the Chicago area regularly file H-1B visa petitions for AI product engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for AI product engineer roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for AI product engineers in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension often transition to H-1B sponsorship through Illinois employers. The O-1A is an alternative for candidates with documented exceptional ability in the AI field.
How to find ai product engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse AI product engineer openings in Illinois without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. You can narrow results by location to target Chicago's core tech districts or suburban employers in the broader metro area. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from companies with a verified history of sponsoring international candidates in technical product positions.
Which cities in Illinois have the most AI product engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the vast majority of AI product engineer sponsorship opportunities in Illinois, particularly in the West Loop, River North, and Fulton Market neighborhoods where technology and startup density is highest. Evanston, home to Northwestern University's research programs, has a smaller but active cluster. Champaign-Urbana occasionally produces openings tied to University of Illinois spinouts and affiliated tech companies.
Are there state-specific considerations for AI product engineers pursuing visa sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements specific to the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro area, which reflect local market rates for AI product engineering roles. The University of Illinois system and Northwestern University generate a steady pipeline of international graduates who enter the Illinois job market on OPT, making Chicago employers familiar with sponsorship timelines and processes. Illinois has no state-level work authorization program, so federal visa pathways apply exclusively.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai product engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
