Which companies sponsor visas for embedded engineers in Michigan?
Michigan's automotive and defense sectors are the primary sources of embedded visa sponsorship. General Motors, Ford, Stellantis, Aptiv, Bosch, and Denso regularly file H-1B visa petitions for embedded software and hardware engineers. Defense contractors such as L3Harris and DRS Technologies also sponsor embedded roles at Michigan facilities. Tier-1 automotive suppliers concentrated in the Metro Detroit corridor are consistent sponsors across multiple visa categories.
Which visa types are most common for embedded roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for embedded engineers in Michigan, covering roles in embedded software development, firmware engineering, and real-time systems. Canadian and Mexican nationals working in embedded roles may qualify for the TN visa under the engineer or computer systems analyst category. Candidates with extraordinary ability in embedded systems research may explore the O-1A, though this requires substantial documentation of recognition in the field.
Which cities in Michigan have the most embedded sponsorship jobs?
Metro Detroit, including Auburn Hills, Dearborn, and Southfield, concentrates the majority of Michigan's embedded sponsorship activity due to its automotive OEM and supplier density. Ann Arbor is a secondary hub, home to University of Michigan research spin-offs and technology companies working on autonomous vehicle systems. Grand Rapids has a smaller but growing embedded presence tied to medical device and manufacturing automation employers.
How to find embedded visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find embedded roles in Michigan without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by state and role type to surface active openings from automotive OEMs, defense contractors, and technology suppliers across Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor. Migrate Mate's listings are updated regularly and focused on international candidates who need employer sponsorship.
Are there state-specific considerations for embedded visa sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's embedded job market is heavily shaped by automotive industry hiring cycles, so demand for sponsored roles often correlates with model-year development timelines and EV platform investment. The University of Michigan and Michigan State University supply a pipeline of F-1 graduates on OPT who transition into sponsored embedded roles at local employers. Prevailing wage requirements for H-1B filings apply based on the specific metropolitan area, so roles in Ann Arbor and Detroit metro carry different wage benchmarks.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored embedded jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
