Which companies sponsor visas for data scientists in New York?
Financial institutions are among the most active sponsors, including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup, all of which file significant numbers of H-1B visa petitions for data science roles. Tech employers like Google, Amazon, and IBM also sponsor data scientists in New York regularly. Healthcare organizations such as Memorial Sloan Kettering and NYU Langone have also sponsored data science positions in recent years.
Which visa types are most common for data scientist roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for data scientists in New York, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Candidates with an F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension can work while an H-1B petition is filed. Those with extraordinary ability may also qualify for the O-1A, though this requires substantial documented recognition in the field.
Which cities in New York have the most data scientist sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the large majority of data scientist sponsorship jobs in the state, with Midtown Manhattan and the Hudson Yards tech corridor being particularly active hiring zones. The city's concentration of financial services, advertising technology, and health-tech companies drives most demand. Albany sees occasional openings through state government and university-affiliated research institutions, while Buffalo has a smaller but growing tech presence.
How to find data scientist visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, making it easier to filter data scientist roles in New York without sifting through listings that don't offer sponsorship. You can browse active openings from employers with a documented history of H-1B filings for data science positions in the state. Filtering by role and location on Migrate Mate surfaces relevant opportunities without the guesswork.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for data scientists seeking visa sponsorship?
New York employers filing H-1B petitions must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which reflect the high cost of living in the New York City metro area and tend to be among the highest in the country for data science roles. New York's strong university pipeline, including Columbia, NYU, and Cornell Tech, means employers are accustomed to sponsoring international graduates. Candidates should confirm sponsorship willingness early in the interview process, as not all employers will sponsor despite being large organizations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data scientist jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
