Which companies sponsor visas for dentists in New York?
Federally qualified health centers such as Urban Health Plan and Ryan Health in New York City are among the most active sponsors, as they frequently hire dentists for underserved community settings. Large dental service organizations like Aspen Dental and Pacific Dental Services also have a track record of sponsoring international dentists in New York. Hospital-affiliated dental programs at major academic medical centers are worth researching as well.
Which visa types are most common for dentist roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained dentists in New York, as the role meets specialty occupation requirements given its degree prerequisites. The J-1 visa is also used, particularly through hospital-based and academic training programs. Dentists working in Health Professional Shortage Areas may be eligible for the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which New York administers through the state health department.
Which cities in New York have the most dentist sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest share of dentist sponsorship opportunities in the state, driven by its dense network of FQHCs, hospital systems, and large group dental practices across all five boroughs. Buffalo and Rochester also have meaningful demand, largely through community health centers and academic dental programs affiliated with the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
How to find dentist visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters dentist roles by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify New York employers actively hiring. You can browse verified dentist sponsorship listings across New York City, Buffalo, Albany, and surrounding areas. Because sponsoring a dentist requires navigating H-1B visa or J-1 visa processes, positions on Migrate Mate are specifically tagged by employers willing to take on that process.
Are there any state-specific considerations for international dentists seeking sponsorship in New York?
International dentists must obtain a New York State dental license before practicing, which requires passing the NBDE or INBDE, a clinical examination, and meeting the New York State Education Department's requirements. New York also participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, allowing J-1 physicians and dentists who commit to working in underserved areas to waive the two-year home residency requirement. Prevailing wage compliance under New York labor law adds an additional layer for H-1B sponsors in the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored dentist jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
