Which companies sponsor visas for human resources interns in New York?
Large multinational corporations with New York headquarters are the most consistent sponsors for HR intern roles. Financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup, alongside consulting firms like Deloitte and PwC, and media conglomerates like NBCUniversal have HR departments large enough to support intern-level visa sponsorship. Smaller firms and startups rarely sponsor interns due to the administrative cost and complexity involved.
Which visa types are most common for human resources intern roles in New York?
F-1 students on OPT or CPT are the most common visa holders in HR intern roles in New York, since these are work-authorized categories that don't require employer petition filing. For post-graduation transitions, H-1B sponsorship is the primary pathway, though HR roles must qualify as specialty occupations requiring a relevant bachelor's degree. J-1 intern exchange programs also appear in larger corporations with established exchange visitor sponsorship infrastructure.
How to find human resources intern visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find human resources intern roles in New York that are open to visa sponsorship. You can filter specifically for HR intern positions in New York, surfacing companies with a documented history of sponsoring international candidates. This saves significant time compared to manually screening job postings that don't disclose sponsorship status, which is common for intern-level roles in the New York market.
Which cities in New York have the most human resources intern sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the overwhelming majority of HR intern sponsorship opportunities in New York state, driven by the concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major banks, and professional services firms. Brooklyn and Long Island City have a smaller but growing presence through tech and media companies. Albany offers some opportunities in state government and healthcare administration, but sponsorship for interns in those sectors is far less common.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for HR interns seeking visa sponsorship?
New York's HR intern market is heavily influenced by its finance and professional services industries, which means many roles are tied to strict recruiting cycles, typically recruiting for summer internships between September and February. International students at New York universities like Columbia, NYU, and Cornell often have access to on-campus employer recruitment events where sponsoring firms actively recruit. CPT eligibility through your university must be confirmed before accepting any paid internship role.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored human resources intern jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
