Which companies sponsor visas for platform engineers in New York?
Financial institutions and large tech employers dominate platform engineer sponsorship in New York. JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg, Spotify, and Datadog have all filed H-1B petitions for platform engineering roles in recent years. Enterprise software companies and cloud infrastructure firms with New York offices also sponsor regularly, particularly for roles involving Kubernetes, Terraform, and internal developer platform work.
Which visa types are most common for platform engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for platform engineers in New York, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related field and meets the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the engineer category. Australians with relevant degrees can pursue the E-3 visa. O-1 visa is an option for engineers with an exceptional track record.
Which cities in New York have the most platform engineer sponsorship jobs?
New York City concentrates the overwhelming majority of platform engineer sponsorship opportunities in the state, particularly in Manhattan neighborhoods like Midtown, Hudson Square, and the Financial District. Brooklyn's tech corridor around DUMBO and Williamsburg has a smaller but growing presence. Outside the city, Albany and Buffalo have limited opportunities, primarily through healthcare systems, state government contractors, and university research environments.
How to find platform engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters platform engineer roles in New York by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. The platform aggregates roles from employers with documented sponsorship history. For platform engineers, filtering by infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE-adjacent categories within New York will surface the most relevant opportunities from companies actively hiring internationally.
Are there state-specific considerations for platform engineers seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York's high concentration of financial services employers means platform engineers often work in regulated environments, which can add compliance requirements to the hiring process and occasionally extend onboarding timelines. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirements apply to all H-1B filings, and New York's high cost of living means the prevailing wage benchmarks for platform engineers in the New York City metropolitan area are among the highest in the country.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored platform engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
