Which companies sponsor visas for software development managers in New York?
Large tech and finance employers in New York with consistent sponsorship histories for software development managers include Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and IBM. Mid-size product companies and fintech startups in the city also sponsor, though frequency varies by headcount and immigration budget. Checking a company's H-1B disclosure data through the Department of Labor's OFLC database can confirm past sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for software development manager roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software development managers in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related field. L-1A visas are an option for managers transferring within a multinational company. O-1A visas can apply for candidates with exceptional ability. Australians may also qualify for the E-3, which has no lottery.
How to find software development manager visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters software development manager roles specifically by visa sponsorship willingness and state, making it straightforward to identify New York employers actively open to sponsoring international candidates. Because sponsorship intent is often buried in standard job listings, using a dedicated platform like Migrate Mate saves significant time. Searching by role and filtering to New York surfaces relevant openings without manually vetting hundreds of generic postings.
Which cities in New York have the most software development manager sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan and Brooklyn, accounts for the overwhelming majority of software development manager sponsorship jobs in the state. The Midtown and Hudson Yards tech corridors, along with the Financial District, concentrate most of the demand. Albany and Buffalo have a smaller number of roles, typically with state government contractors, healthcare systems, or regional technology firms rather than large consumer tech employers.
Are there any state-specific considerations for software development managers pursuing visa sponsorship in New York?
New York City's dense concentration of finance, media, and enterprise tech employers means prevailing wage levels for software development managers are among the highest in the country, which affects what employers must pay sponsored workers under H-1B rules. New York also has a strong pipeline from universities like Columbia, Cornell Tech, and NYU, meaning sponsored candidates are often competing against a well-credentialed local talent pool. Employers here tend to expect both technical depth and experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software development manager jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
