The Worldwide Brand organization is looking for a Motion Designer to bring the brand to life through movement. This role focuses on executing high-quality motion design across brand and marketing touchpoints while learning and applying the brand’s motion principles and systems. This is an individual contributor role centered on strong craft, reliable execution, and collaboration. You’ll work closely with Brand Designers and Creative Leadership to ensure motion is thoughtful, consistent, and aligned to the brand — leveraging modern creative tools, including AI, to enhance efficiency and exploration. This is a contract role through SDI (Lenovo’s approved staffing partner) with an anticipated duration of 12–18 months, based on business needs. The individual will be employed by SDI and assigned to support Lenovo. This position is not eligible for Lenovo employee benefits, and there is no guarantee of extension or conversion to a Lenovo full-time role. All employment terms, including compensation and benefits, will be managed by SDI.
What you’ll do:
Design and produce motion assets across brand and marketing channels (campaigns, social, launches, events, brand storytelling)
Translate static brand designs into clear, expressive motion
Apply existing motion principles, patterns, and guidelines consistently
Collaborate early with Brand Designers to plan motion needs
Create and adapt motion assets for different formats and platforms
Incorporate feedback efficiently and iterate on work
Use creative AI tools to accelerate ideation, streamline production workflows, and explore motion concepts responsibly
Ensure motion work meets brand, quality, and accessibility standards
What you’ll own:
Execution and quality of assigned motion work
Timely delivery of production-ready motion assets
Consistent application of brand motion guidelines
Responsible and effective use of AI tools within established brand standards
QUALIFICATIONS
3–5 years of experience in motion design, ideally within an in-house, brand, or product-focused team
Strong fundamentals in animation, timing, typography, and visual storytelling
Proficiency in After Effects (or equivalent) and modern design workflows
Working knowledge of creative AI tools (e.g., generative visual tools, AI-assisted animation workflows, concept generation tools) and ability to apply them thoughtfully
Ability to manage multiple projects and incorporate feedback effectively
Portfolio demonstrating brand-driven motion work and strong craft fundamentals
* Working proficiency in Mandarin is a plus, not required.

Which companies sponsor visas for creative designers in North Carolina?
Several large employers in North Carolina have a track record of sponsoring work visas for creative roles. Red Hat and Lenovo in Research Triangle hire product and brand designers and have established immigration programs. Bank of America and Wells Fargo in Charlotte occasionally sponsor UX and visual designers within their marketing teams. Mid-size tech companies and agencies in Raleigh-Durham also sponsor, though less consistently than enterprise employers.
Which visa types are most common for creative designer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for creative designers in North Carolina, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific design-related field. O-1A visas are an option for designers with documented awards, publications, or industry recognition. Candidates already on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension can work while a sponsoring employer files an H-1B petition.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most creative designer sponsorship jobs?
The Research Triangle area, covering Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, has the highest concentration of creative designer sponsorship opportunities, driven by its tech and life sciences employers. Charlotte is the second-strongest market, particularly for brand, UX, and marketing design roles tied to its large financial services sector. Smaller pockets of activity exist in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, primarily through manufacturing companies and regional agencies.
How to find creative designer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify North Carolina employers actively hiring creative designers who need work authorization. Rather than sorting through unfiltered postings, you can search by role and state to surface relevant opportunities at companies like product-focused tech firms in Research Triangle or marketing teams in Charlotte that have sponsored international designers previously.
Are there state-specific considerations for creative designers pursuing sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's university pipeline, particularly from NC State's College of Design and UNC's programs, means local employers are accustomed to recruiting design talent, though most pipeline hires are domestic. For international candidates, the Research Triangle's dense concentration of H-1B-filing tech employers creates more sponsorship pathways than in other parts of the state. Roles explicitly requiring a design-specific degree are better positioned for H-1B specialty occupation approval than generalist creative titles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored creative designer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
