Which companies sponsor visas for AI/ML engineers in Oregon?
Intel is one of Oregon's most active H-1B visa sponsors and maintains a significant presence in Hillsboro with engineering teams working on hardware-adjacent ML roles. Nike's global headquarters in Beaverton has expanded its data science and AI functions. Portland-based tech companies and smaller AI startups also sponsor, though volume and consistency vary significantly by employer size and hiring cycle.
Which visa types are most common for AI/ML engineering roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for AI/ML engineers in Oregon, as these roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a closely related field. O-1A visas are an option for engineers with demonstrated exceptional ability through published research, patents, or significant technical contributions. Some roles at universities or research institutions may also involve J-1 visa or F-1 OPT authorization.
Which cities in Oregon have the most AI/ML engineering sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the broader metro area, including Hillsboro and Beaverton, account for the large majority of AI/ML sponsorship activity in Oregon. Intel's Hillsboro campus alone drives substantial engineering hiring. Eugene has a smaller but emerging tech presence connected to the University of Oregon. Corvallis, home to Oregon State University, occasionally produces research-adjacent ML roles, though commercial sponsorship there is limited.
How to find ai ml engineering visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify AI/ML engineering roles in Oregon where employers are actively willing to sponsor. Rather than sorting through thousands of general postings, you can search directly for sponsorship-confirmed openings in the state. Focusing on companies with established H-1B filing histories in Oregon, particularly in the Portland metro, improves your chances of finding active opportunities.
Are there state-specific factors AI/ML engineers should know about Oregon sponsorship jobs?
Oregon has no state income tax, which affects total compensation comparisons but does not directly impact visa sponsorship processes. Employers must still meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific role and location when filing an H-1B Labor Condition Application. Oregon State University and the University of Oregon produce ML graduates who feed local pipelines, meaning some employers in the state are already familiar with sponsoring international candidates from those programs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai ml engineering jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
