Which companies sponsor visas for dermatologists in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania's largest dermatology sponsors include UPMC, Penn Medicine, Jefferson Health, Temple Health, and Geisinger Health System. Academic departments at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey and Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia also file H-1B and J-1 petitions for dermatology faculty and clinical fellows. Large multi-site dermatology groups and hospital-owned outpatient practices are additional sponsoring employers across the state.
Which visa types are most common for dermatologist roles in Pennsylvania?
H-1B is the most common visa for board-eligible and board-certified dermatologists employed by Pennsylvania hospitals and practice groups. J-1 visas are widely used for dermatology residency and fellowship training at ACGME-accredited programs in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Physicians completing J-1 training who want to transition to employment typically need a waiver or must fulfill the two-year home-residency requirement before an H-1B sponsor can proceed.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most dermatologist sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the highest concentration of dermatologist sponsorship activity, driven by its cluster of academic medical centers and large health systems. Pittsburgh is the second-largest hub, anchored by UPMC's extensive dermatology network. Hershey, home to Penn State Health, and Allentown, served by Lehigh Valley Health Network, are notable secondary markets. Suburban Philadelphia counties also show consistent demand from hospital-affiliated outpatient clinics.
How to find dermatologist visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate lists dermatologist roles in Pennsylvania filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, letting you search by city, health system, or visa type without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Because dermatology is a competitive specialty, filtering early for confirmed-sponsor employers saves time. Use Migrate Mate to identify which Pennsylvania health systems and academic departments are actively hiring internationally trained dermatologists rather than applying broadly.
What state-specific factors should international dermatologists know about working in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania requires a full medical license from the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine before a physician can practice clinically. International medical graduates must verify ECFMG certification and complete required postgraduate training steps before licensure. For academic positions at UPMC or Penn Medicine, dermatologists should also check whether a J-1 waiver through the Pennsylvania Conrad 30 program is applicable to their training background and intended employer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored dermatologist jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
