Which companies sponsor visas for dermatologists in California?
Large health systems and academic medical centers are the most consistent sponsors for dermatologists in California. Organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, UC San Diego Health, UCSF Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai, and Stanford Health Care have sponsored H-1B visa and J-1 visas for dermatology physicians. Community health centers operating under FQHC status may also sponsor visas and, in some cases, qualify for J-1 waiver programs that convert exchange visitors to H-1B status.
Which visa types are most common for dermatologist roles in California?
H-1B is the most widely used visa for board-certified dermatologists in California, since the role meets the specialty occupation standard requiring a medical degree and residency. J-1 is common during residency and fellowship training, with Conrad 30 waivers available through the California Department of Health Care Access and Information for physicians who commit to underserved area practice. O-1A visas are available for dermatologists with demonstrated national or international recognition.
How to find dermatologist visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters dermatologist job listings in California by visa sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have previously filed H-1B or PERM applications for physician roles. Use Migrate Mate to search California-specific dermatology openings at academic centers, hospital groups, and private practices. This is more efficient than browsing unfiltered job listings, since sponsorship willingness is surfaced directly in the search results rather than requiring separate employer research.
Which cities in California have the most dermatologist sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles has the highest concentration of dermatologist sponsorship opportunities, driven by Cedars-Sinai, UCLA Health, and USC Keck Medicine. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area come next, anchored by UCSF and Stanford. San Diego has a growing academic and private sector presence through UC San Diego Health. Sacramento sees consistent demand through UC Davis Health, which actively recruits dermatologists for its academic medical center and affiliated clinics.
Are there state-specific considerations for dermatologists seeking sponsorship in California?
California requires dermatologists to hold a valid California Medical Board license, which involves additional steps for internationally trained physicians, including USMLE completion and credential verification. The Conrad 30 waiver program, administered by the California Department of Health Care Access and Information, provides a J-1 waiver pathway for dermatologists willing to practice in Health Professional Shortage Areas. Prevailing wage compliance is required for all H-1B filings, and employers must certify wages through the OFLC Wage Search before filing with USCIS.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored dermatologist jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
