Search Graduate Jobs in PennsylvaniaGraduate Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for graduates in Pennsylvania?
Large employers with established sponsorship programs include Penn Medicine, UPMC, PNC Financial Services, Comcast, and defense contractors like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon in the Greater Philadelphia area. Pittsburgh's technology sector, anchored by companies with ties to Carnegie Mellon and Pitt, also produces consistent graduate sponsorship activity across software engineering and data roles.
Which visa types are most common for graduate roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for graduates in specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Graduates who completed U.S. degrees may use OPT or STEM OPT as a bridge while pursuing H-1B sponsorship. Graduates from Australia or Canada may also qualify for E-3 visa or TN visas depending on their citizenship and occupation.
How to find graduate visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search graduate roles in Pennsylvania without sifting through employers who don't sponsor. The platform covers industries well-represented in the state, including healthcare, finance, and engineering, making it more targeted than general job searches for international candidates on OPT or seeking H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most graduate sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of graduate sponsorship activity, driven by its concentration of hospital systems, financial services firms, and technology companies. Pittsburgh is the second major hub, particularly for software engineering and research roles connected to its university ecosystem. Smaller markets like Harrisburg and Allentown have more limited sponsorship activity concentrated in government contracting and manufacturing.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific considerations for graduate visa sponsorship?
Pennsylvania's strong university pipeline, particularly from Penn, Carnegie Mellon, Drexel, and Temple, means employers in the state are accustomed to hiring international graduates and navigating OPT-to-H-1B transitions. Healthcare roles in the state often require specific licensure steps that run parallel to visa processing, so coordinating those timelines with your employer's HR and legal teams is worth doing early.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored graduate jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
