Which companies sponsor visas for customer support roles in Puerto Rico?
Larger employers with established HR and legal infrastructure are the most consistent sponsors. In Puerto Rico, that includes multinational financial institutions like Popular, Inc. and Santander, pharmaceutical companies with island operations such as AbbVie and Johnson and Johnson, and BPO firms serving Caribbean and Latin American markets. Smaller local call centers rarely sponsor visas due to the administrative cost and complexity involved.
Which visa types are most common for customer support roles in Puerto Rico?
The H-1B is the most common work visa for sponsored roles, but customer support positions typically need to qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree in a specific field, which can be a higher bar for general support roles. Bilingual technical support, IT help desk, or customer success roles tied to specialized software or financial products are more likely to meet that standard than general call center work.
Which cities in Puerto Rico have the most customer support sponsorship jobs?
San Juan accounts for the majority of sponsored customer support roles on the island, particularly in the Hato Rey financial district and surrounding corporate corridors. Guaynabo and Caguas also have notable concentrations, largely due to pharmaceutical and professional services employers based in those municipalities. Remote-capable support roles tied to mainland U.S. operations can sometimes be based anywhere on the island.
How to find customer support visa sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers who need visa sponsorship and lets you filter customer support roles by location, including Puerto Rico. Because the island follows U.S. federal immigration law, sponsored roles here follow the same process as mainland positions. Searching on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have a demonstrated history of sponsoring work visas, saving you from applying to companies that won't support your visa needs.
Are there any Puerto Rico-specific considerations for customer support sponsorship candidates?
Puerto Rico uses the same federal prevailing wage standards as the mainland U.S., so H-1B sponsors must meet Department of Labor wage requirements based on the San Juan metropolitan area, not a lower regional rate. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is often a practical requirement given the local market. Candidates with experience supporting Latin American or Caribbean customers may have an advantage with employers targeting those regions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored customer support jobs in Puerto Rico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
