Which companies sponsor visas for welders in Tennessee?
Automotive manufacturers and their suppliers are among the most active sponsors for welder roles in Tennessee. Companies tied to the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, along with heavy equipment fabricators and defense contractors near Nashville and Memphis, have histories of sponsoring skilled tradespeople. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and depends on whether a company can demonstrate it couldn't fill the role domestically.
Which visa types are most common for welder roles in Tennessee?
The H-2B visa is the most commonly used category for welder roles because welding is generally classified as a skilled trade rather than a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree. Some highly specialized welding positions, such as those in aerospace or nuclear applications, may qualify under H-1B visa if the role requires a degree-level credential. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible occupations.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most welder sponsorship jobs?
Chattanooga leads due to its concentration of automotive manufacturing, including the Volkswagen assembly plant and its network of Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. Nashville attracts welders through its growing industrial and construction sectors. Memphis supports welding demand through logistics infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and port-adjacent manufacturing operations. Smaller industrial cities like Kingsport and Jackson also have active manufacturing employers.
How to find welder visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate is specifically built for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter by state and job category to find welder positions in Tennessee where employers have indicated openness to sponsorship. Because sponsorship availability changes frequently, checking Migrate Mate regularly and setting up alerts for new welder postings in Tennessee gives you the best chance of finding current opportunities.
Are there any Tennessee-specific considerations for welders seeking visa sponsorship?
Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which affects take-home pay calculations and can be relevant when evaluating an offer. Prevailing wage requirements still apply at the federal level for sponsored roles, meaning employers must pay the wage rate set by the Department of Labor for the specific occupation and county. Welders in specialized sectors like nuclear energy, concentrated around Oak Ridge, may face additional security clearance requirements that can complicate or limit sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored welder jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
