Which companies sponsor visas for automotive technicians in Texas?
AutoNation and Penske Automotive are among the largest dealership groups in Texas with histories of sponsoring skilled technicians. Independent fleet service companies and OEM-authorized service centers in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas have also filed H-2B visa and H-1B visa petitions for qualified candidates. Sponsorship activity tends to concentrate at larger dealership groups that have dedicated HR and legal infrastructure to manage the petition process.
Which visa types are most common for automotive technician roles in Texas?
H-2B is the most commonly used visa for automotive technicians, covering temporary non-agricultural workers in skilled trades. H-1B is less common for this role because it requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree, which most technician roles do not meet. Some technicians with specialized certifications and supervisory responsibilities have been sponsored under H-1B, but those cases involve significant documentation of the role's technical complexity.
Which cities in Texas have the most automotive technician sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads in volume, driven by its large population and concentration of dealership groups, fleet operators, and commercial vehicle service centers. Dallas-Fort Worth is a close second, with a dense network of franchise dealerships and independent shops. San Antonio and Austin also show consistent demand, particularly for technicians with hybrid, electric vehicle, and OEM-certified diagnostic skills as those markets grow.
How to find automotive technician visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate lists automotive technician roles in Texas filtered specifically for positions open to visa sponsorship, saving you time sorting through listings that won't support international candidates. You can filter by city, certification type, and visa category to narrow down employers actively willing to sponsor. For Texas, focus your search on Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth first, where sponsoring dealership groups and fleet operators are most concentrated.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for automotive technicians seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas does not require a state-issued automotive technician license, but ASE certifications are widely expected by employers and strengthen a sponsorship case by demonstrating verifiable skill standards. Employers sponsoring under H-2B must attest to the Department of Labor that no qualified U.S. workers are available, a requirement that applies consistently across Texas markets. OEM-specific training from manufacturers like Toyota, BMW, or Ford, whose regional operations have a significant Texas presence, can make a candidate more competitive.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automotive technician jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
