Which companies sponsor visas for civil project engineers in Texas?
Large engineering and infrastructure firms with significant Texas operations are among the most consistent sponsors for civil project engineers. Companies like Jacobs, AECOM, Kimley-Horn, Freese and Nichols, and Burns & McDonnell appear regularly in Department of Labor LCA filings for civil engineering roles in Texas. Public agencies and transportation contractors working on TxDOT projects also generate sponsorship activity, though employer-sponsored positions vary year to year.
Which visa types are most common for civil project engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for civil project engineers in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. Some employers also sponsor EB-3 or EB-2 immigrant visas for longer-term hires. Canadian and Mexican citizens may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which covers engineers and can be obtained at a port of entry without a petition process.
Which cities in Texas have the most civil project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads the state for civil project engineer sponsorship given its concentration of energy infrastructure, port expansion, and flood control projects. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, driven by rapid population growth and continuous highway and transit development. Austin has seen strong demand tied to tech-adjacent infrastructure growth, and San Antonio generates steady openings through military base expansions and regional transportation projects. All four metros have offices of major national engineering firms.
How to find civil project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship jobs in the U.S., including civil project engineer roles in Texas. You can filter directly by role and state to see verified sponsorship-open positions from employers who have filed LCAs for civil engineering titles in Texas. This is more efficient than sorting through general job boards where sponsorship availability is rarely disclosed upfront.
Are there state-specific factors that affect civil project engineer sponsorship in Texas?
Texas does not have a state income tax, which affects prevailing wage calculations and overall compensation benchmarking that employers must meet under Department of Labor requirements for H-1B filings. The state's ongoing infrastructure investment through TxDOT and major municipal water and drainage programs creates consistent demand for civil project engineers. Several Texas universities, including UT Austin, Texas A&M, and UT Arlington, produce engineering graduates who enter the local talent pipeline, meaning employer sponsorship programs are often well-established in the region.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored civil project engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
