Which companies sponsor visas for mental health professionals in Texas?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors for mental health roles in Texas. UT Southwestern Medical Center, Baylor Scott and White Health, Houston Methodist, Texas Health Resources, and the Department of Veterans Affairs facilities across the state have histories of sponsoring H-1B visa and other work visas for licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors. Community mental health centers funded by the state also sponsor in some cases.
Which visa types are most common for mental health roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for mental health professionals in Texas, particularly for roles requiring a master's or doctoral degree such as licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, and licensed counselors. J-1 visas are also used for psychiatry and psychology postdoctoral training at academic medical centers. Mental health roles at nonprofits or government agencies may qualify for H-1B cap-exempt sponsorship, which bypasses the annual lottery.
Which cities in Texas have the most mental health sponsorship jobs?
Houston and Dallas have the highest concentration of mental health visa sponsorship jobs in Texas, driven by large hospital systems, Veterans Affairs medical centers, and academic institutions. Austin is a growing market with expanding community mental health infrastructure and tech-sector employee assistance programs. San Antonio has significant activity through its military healthcare network, including Brooke Army Medical Center and affiliated civilian providers.
How to find mental health visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters mental health roles in Texas by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you time screening out employers who don't sponsor. Search for titles like licensed counselor, clinical psychologist, or licensed clinical social worker with the Texas filter applied. Focusing on large hospital systems, university health centers, and state-funded community mental health centers will surface the employers most likely to sponsor work visas.
Are there state-specific considerations for mental health visa sponsorship in Texas?
Texas requires its own state licensure for psychologists, licensed professional counselors, and licensed clinical social workers, and most employers will require you to hold or be eligible for a Texas license before sponsoring a visa. The Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors each have their own application processes. International candidates should confirm their credentials are eligible for Texas licensure before pursuing sponsorship, as licensure is typically a condition of employment.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
