Job Description:
The UTEP College of Education invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor (RAP) position in Workforce Development to help align community and industry workforce needs with College of Education research and programming. Funded by the UT System Regents Research Excellence Program, this is a full-time, non-tenure track research faculty position with a three-year appointment. This is a research-dedicated position with no required teaching load, though opportunities to teach may be available depending on interests, opportunities, and funding. The College of Education is experiencing an exciting period of growth in its dedicated research structure, with a rapidly expanding team of research faculty and postdoctoral scholars. As part of our continued growth and strategic vision, the College of Education is intentionally expanding its research portfolio, with workforce development identified as one of its priority growth areas. The RAP hire in workforce development will play a critical role in advancing that priority and strengthening the College of Education's impact in the community. The College of Education's residency model is a nationally recognized workforce development approach that has become an exemplary model for teacher preparation programs. The College of Education is trying to build on that success by extending this expertise beyond educator and counselor preparation to advance workforce readiness across multiple sectors. The College of Education is committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities that align with industry needs and prepare individuals with the knowledge, skills, and computational thinking required for success in a wide range of career fields across the modern economy. Successful candidates will specialize in topics like expanding regional opportunities through education-to-workforce pathways; STEM postsecondary and career pathways; workforce readiness in emerging sectors; education policies/practices that support workforce needs; community- and industry-engaged workforce research; and equity in workforce access, credentialing, and advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- The RAP will develop a sustainable, externally funded research and programming agenda in workforce development.
- The RAP will secure research funding from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Labor, and the National Science Foundation, as well as prominent education research foundations like the William T. Grant Foundation and the Spencer Foundation.
- The RAP will generate high-impact research outputs, including peer-reviewed journal articles. These publications will be tracked through metrics such as citation counts, journal impact factors, and h-index.
- The RAP will participate in existing research-practice partnerships, leveraging UTEP's existing relationships with multiple school districts, and will build on existing initiatives, such as El Paso Computes: K-12 Impact, providing capacity for the College of Education to lead new collaborative projects.
- The RAP will mentor/collaborate with students and faculty to advance the next generation of UTEP scholars and broaden research participation at UTEP.
Job Requirements
- Demonstrated research and/or programming expertise relevant to education-to-workforce pathways, workforce development, or industry-engaged workforce research
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications or strong potential for scholarly productivity
- Earned doctorate by August 2026
