Which companies sponsor visas for senior software developers in Texas?
Large employers with consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for senior software developers in Texas include Dell Technologies, Oracle, IBM, AT&T, and Texas Instruments. Austin's expanding tech sector also includes Apple, Google, and Amazon offices that file sponsorship petitions regularly. Fintech firms and defense contractors in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are also active sponsors for senior engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for senior software developer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for senior software developers in Texas, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may qualify for the O-1A. Intracompany transfers at multinational employers, such as Dell or IBM, may also use the L-1A or L-1B categories.
Which cities in Texas have the most senior software developer sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads Texas for senior software developer sponsorship activity, anchored by a dense concentration of tech companies and a strong pipeline from the University of Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, with major corporate headquarters and a large financial technology sector. Houston contributes through energy-tech and healthcare IT employers. San Antonio has a growing cybersecurity cluster tied to military and government contractors.
How to find senior software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, making it practical to search senior software developer positions across Texas without sifting through listings that exclude international candidates. You can narrow by city, including Austin, Dallas, or Houston, to target markets where sponsorship activity is highest for this role.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for senior software developer sponsorship roles?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how employers structure compensation benchmarks relative to prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program. The state's large public university system, including UT Austin and Texas A&M, generates a significant OPT pipeline that many Texas employers are already accustomed to sponsoring through to H-1B status. Senior-level roles typically face less friction in the sponsorship process than entry-level positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software developer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
