Which companies sponsor visas for systems engineers in Texas?
Several large employers in Texas have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for systems engineers. Dell Technologies and Texas Instruments in the Austin-Dallas corridor, AT&T and Ericsson in Dallas, Raytheon and Boeing in the San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth areas, and HP Inc. in Houston are among the most active sponsors. Defense contractors with federal contracts also sponsor frequently, given the concentration of military installations across the state.
Which visa types are most common for systems engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for systems engineers in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA. Australians can pursue the E-3 visa. Experienced engineers with extraordinary ability sometimes pursue O-1A petitions, though that pathway requires substantial documented achievement.
Which cities in Texas have the most systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads in tech-sector systems engineer sponsorship, anchored by Dell, Apple, and a dense cluster of semiconductor and cloud infrastructure companies. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, with strong demand from AT&T, Ericsson, Lockheed Martin, and numerous defense contractors. Houston draws systems engineers into energy and aerospace, with NASA's Johnson Space Center nearby. San Antonio has a notable concentration driven by military and cybersecurity employers, including USAA and several defense primes.
How to find systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse systems engineer roles in Texas without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by city, employer type, and visa category to narrow results to what's relevant for your situation. Because Texas has active hiring across defense, semiconductor, and cloud infrastructure sectors, new sponsorship-eligible postings appear regularly on Migrate Mate.
Are there any Texas-specific factors that affect systems engineer visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since employers filing Labor Condition Applications must certify wages meet Department of Labor standards for the specific work location. Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth are classified in higher prevailing wage tiers than smaller Texas metros. Texas A&M, UT Austin, and Rice University produce strong local engineering pipelines, which means competition for sponsorship roles can be significant, particularly at employers who recruit heavily from those programs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored systems engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
