Search Tax Associate Jobs in VirginiaTax Associate Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for tax associates in Virginia?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and Ernst & Young, are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for tax associates in Virginia, with significant operations in Northern Virginia and Richmond. Regional firms such as CohnReznick and Cherry Bekaert also sponsor, as do large federal contractors and Fortune 500 corporations headquartered in the D.C. metro area with in-house tax departments.
Which visa types are most common for tax associate roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for tax associates in Virginia, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. F-1 graduates with OPT or STEM OPT may work initially before employer-sponsored H-1B sponsorship. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa category.
Which cities in Virginia have the most tax associate sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly McLean, Tysons, and Arlington, concentrates the highest volume of tax associate sponsorship opportunities due to proximity to Washington, D.C. and the dense presence of accounting firms, federal contractors, and financial services companies. Richmond is a secondary hub, driven by regional accounting firms and financial institutions. Reston and Herndon also see consistent demand from technology and government contracting employers with active tax functions.
How to find tax associate visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters tax associate positions specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can browse roles in Virginia without sorting through employers who won't consider international candidates. The platform surfaces opportunities across Northern Virginia, Richmond, and the broader D.C. metro area, covering both Big Four postings and regional firms. Filtering by role and location on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify active sponsoring employers for tax associate positions in Virginia.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for tax associates seeking visa sponsorship?
Virginia's proximity to federal regulatory bodies and its large federal contracting sector means tax associate roles often involve government-related tax work, which can carry specific eligibility requirements for security clearances that may affect visa holders. Virginia universities including George Mason and University of Virginia supply accounting graduates who enter the local sponsorship pipeline, meaning competition for sponsored roles at regional firms can be notable. Candidates with CPA progress or a master's in taxation tend to be more competitive with sponsoring employers in this market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax associate jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
