Search Tax Associate Jobs in OregonTax Associate Jobs in Oregon: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for tax associates in Oregon?
The most active sponsors for tax associate roles in Oregon include Big Four firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG) with Portland offices, as well as regional firms like Moss Adams and Perkins & Co. Large Oregon-based corporations with in-house tax departments, including Nike and Intel, have also sponsored tax professionals. Regional and national firms with established immigration infrastructure are generally your most realistic options.
Which visa types are most common for tax associate roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for tax associates in Oregon, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field. Candidates with relevant degrees from Canadian or Mexican institutions may be eligible for TN visa status under the accountant category, which does not require lottery selection and can be a faster path.
Which cities in Oregon have the most tax associate sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the large majority of tax associate sponsorship activity in Oregon. It hosts the state's highest concentration of accounting firm offices, corporate headquarters, and financial services employers. Salem has limited opportunities through state government and regional firms. Bend and Eugene have smaller accounting markets with occasional openings, but Portland is where international candidates are most likely to find employers with active sponsorship programs.
How to find tax associate visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to browse tax associate roles in Oregon without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface openings at firms with a documented history of sponsoring tax professionals. This is more efficient than broad job searches that rarely surface sponsorship details upfront.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for tax associate candidates seeking sponsorship?
Oregon does not have a state income tax reciprocity agreement with neighboring states, which means tax associates here work with Oregon-specific filing requirements that firms value as specialized knowledge. The University of Oregon and Portland State University produce accounting graduates that firms recruit locally, so international candidates often compete directly with domestic new graduates. Candidates with CPA exam progress or a master's in taxation can strengthen their case for sponsorship consideration.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax associate jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
