Apple builds products that are loved by people around the world—products that enrich lives by making powerful technology feel simple, intuitive, and accessible. Through deep integration of hardware, software, services, and design, we deliver end-to-end experiences that fit naturally into everyday life. This is where ambitious ideas become real products, shipped at global scale and trusted by millions, and increasingly billions, of people.
People use Apple products for their most personal activities—from everyday communication to navigation, photos, health, fitness, and more—and we strive to build experiences that work across these seamlessly and contextually with uncompromising privacy & security. We’re looking for software engineers to help harness cutting-edge technologies like AI, machine learning, and computer vision to solve ambitious, high-impact problems for our users. Our work sits at the intersection of AI, system software, and user experience, and aims to create features you’d genuinely want to use.
Description
In this role, you will work across the stack—from the system software and frameworks to end-user interfaces—to build Apple Intelligence features that enrich people’s lives. This is a highly cross-functional role working with design, algorithms, software, services, privacy, security, performance, and sometimes even HW / Silicon teams across Apple to engineer end-to-end solutions.
You will need to work quickly and creatively to help demonstrate the viability of ideas and technologies while building robust, production-ready systems that millions of users will depend on. Your work will include building UI interfaces and system software using Swift, evaluating AI/ML algorithms for on-device integration, collaborating on user experience design, debugging complex cross-device interactions, and contributing to a culture of shipping high-quality production code. In addition to software engineering, you will also apply excellent UX intuition to identify and shape experience opportunities, iterate with design, and define technical requirements that drive development.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS / MS / PhD in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years in software development
- Excellent programming skills in any programming language (preferably at least one of Swift, Objective-C, C++) and strong understanding of data structures, memory management, and concurrency
- Skilled at debugging and triaging software defects including race conditions, deadlocks, synchronization issues in multi-threaded environments etc.
- Systems thinking, including ability to break down ambiguous problems and drive clarity on critical details
- Strong intuition for user experience + ability to translate customer needs into technical requirements
- Solid cross-functional collaboration and technical communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Shipping customer-facing features or products to production at scale
- Developing for iOS/MacOS and/or using Apple system frameworks like SwiftUI and ARKit
- Building & shipping features using LLMs and/or Machine Learning algorithms, including on-device inference, data-driven validation, requirement definition, and collaboration with algorithm teams
- Processing sensor data, (e.g. image/video, audio, motion), such as using computer vision / signal processing, working with vector transforms, and/or developing AR applications
- Developing & validating personalization features, including working with sensitive datasources such as conversation transcripts or Health data
- Developing under strict privacy and security constraints, including techniques like secure data processing, and/or privacy-by-design principles
- Developing system software or frameworks, including API definition and performance optimization (particularly for resource constrained or real-time systems)

Which companies sponsor visas for AI software developers in Washington?
Microsoft, Amazon, and Google are the most active H-1B sponsors for AI software developer roles in Washington, particularly in the Seattle-Redmond area. Mid-size tech companies like Tableau, Zillow, and Expedia also have established sponsorship histories for AI and machine learning roles. Defense and aerospace contractors near the Puget Sound region, including Boeing, occasionally sponsor AI engineering positions as well.
Which visa types are most common for AI software developer roles in Washington?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for AI software developers in Washington, as these roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, AI, or a related field. Australian nationals may also be eligible for the E-3 visa. Candidates with extraordinary ability in AI research sometimes pursue the O-1A. Many candidates in Washington also transition from F-1 OPT or STEM OPT before employer H-1B sponsorship.
How to find ai software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find AI software developer roles in Washington with confirmed visa sponsorship. You can filter specifically by this role and state to surface employers who have sponsored similar positions. Washington's concentration of large tech employers means sponsorship opportunities are relatively common compared to other states, but filtering for active sponsorship history saves significant time in your search.
Which cities in Washington have the most AI software developer sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and Redmond account for the majority of AI software developer sponsorship jobs in Washington, driven by Amazon's Seattle headquarters and Microsoft's Redmond campus. Bellevue is a growing secondary hub, with companies like T-Mobile and Expedia expanding their AI teams there. Kirkland hosts Google's sizable engineering office, which regularly sponsors international AI developers. Smaller concentrations exist in Tacoma and near university research corridors.
Are there state-specific considerations for AI software developers pursuing sponsorship in Washington?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects how prevailing wage calculations compare in real purchasing power terms for sponsored employees. The state's dense AI research ecosystem, including the University of Washington's Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science, creates a strong pipeline of AI talent and employer familiarity with sponsoring international candidates. Washington employers filing H-1B petitions must still comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific role and location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai software developer jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
