Which companies sponsor visas for tax accountants in Washington?
Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors for tax and accounting roles in Washington, based on Department of Labor disclosure data. Large regional accounting firms such as Clark Nuber and Moss Adams, headquartered in the Seattle area, also have sponsorship histories. Big Four firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) with Seattle offices regularly sponsor international tax professionals as well.
Which visa types are most common for tax accountant roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for tax accountants in Washington, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the USMCA, which lists accountants as an eligible profession. Australian citizens may also pursue the E-3 visa for qualifying positions.
Which cities in Washington have the most tax accountant sponsorship jobs?
Seattle accounts for the majority of tax accountant sponsorship activity in Washington, driven by its concentration of large corporations and professional services firms. Bellevue and Redmond are close seconds, largely due to Microsoft's campus presence and the surrounding tech sector. Tacoma and Spokane have smaller but active accounting markets, primarily through regional firms and state government-adjacent employers.
How to find tax accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find tax accountant roles in Washington where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. Because sponsorship willingness is not always stated in standard job postings, using a platform built around that filter saves significant research time. Migrate Mate covers roles across Seattle, Bellevue, and other Washington markets.
Are there any Washington-specific factors that affect tax accountant visa sponsorship?
Washington has no state income tax, which shapes the local tax function somewhat differently than in states like California or New York. Employers here often prioritize federal tax compliance, international tax, and transfer pricing expertise, particularly in the tech sector. Washington's strong university pipeline, including the University of Washington's accounting program, means employers are accustomed to recruiting internationally trained candidates and navigating the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax accountant jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
