From assisting in commissioning to developing maintenance strategies, you will be responsible for optimizing and owning first-of-its-kind equipment. You will drive the identification and resolution of issues and lead the design of creative tooling that minimizes downtime and enables a highly efficient process. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a direct impact in the production of Form Energy’s revolutionary energy storage solutions.
What you'll do:
- Own the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of robotic and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Define and implement OEE and equipment performance metrics to identify loss drivers and prioritize improvement work.
- Translate production data and downtime trends into clear problem statements, project scopes, and execution plans.
- Drive equipment-focused improvement projects, including mechanical, tooling, fixturing, and station layout changes.
- Create and maintain CAD designs and drawings to develop hardware solutions that address reliability, ergonomics, quality, and throughput issues.
- Proactively respond to production events with a root-cause, system-level mindset, coordinating mechanical, electrical, and controls actions to restore and improve performance.
- Support installation, commissioning, and ramp of new equipment, including active participation in design reviews, FATs, and SATs from an equipment owner perspective.
- Optimize equipment parameters and station configuration in collaboration with production and quality teams.
- Provide hands-on floor support in a high-volume manufacturing environment and establish standards to reduce repeat issues.
What you'll bring:
- 7+ years of applicable experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment, such as furnaces, web or powder handling equipment, mixers, resistance welders, or laminators.
- Demonstrated experience in equipment engineering within a production or manufacturing environment, including system ownership.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues under production pressure.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across equipment, controls, manufacturing, quality, and operations to drive execution and results.

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.

Which companies sponsor visas for operations leads in West Virginia?
Manufacturing and energy companies are the most active sponsors for operations lead roles in West Virginia. Employers like Nucor Steel, Chemours, and Appalachian Power have histories of sponsoring skilled foreign nationals in operational and management roles. Chemical manufacturing facilities along the Kanawha Valley and natural gas infrastructure companies have also filed H-1B petitions for operations-focused positions. Sponsorship activity tends to follow capital investment in the state's industrial base.
Which visa types are most common for operations lead roles in West Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for operations lead roles in West Virginia, provided the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, supply chain, or industrial management. Some roles may also be filled through L-1A visas when the hire is an intracompany transfer into a managerial position. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management or engineering categories.
Which cities in West Virginia have the most operations lead sponsorship jobs?
Charleston is West Virginia's largest metro and the state's primary hub for corporate headquarters, energy companies, and chemical manufacturing, making it the top city for operations lead hiring. Huntington supports manufacturing and healthcare operations along the Ohio River corridor. Morgantown, home to West Virginia University, generates demand for operations professionals in research, healthcare, and technology. The Eastern Panhandle cities of Martinsburg and Harpers Ferry benefit from proximity to the Washington, D.C. metro labor market.
How to find operations lead visa sponsorship jobs in West Virginia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters operations lead roles in West Virginia by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from sorting through postings that don't support work authorization. You can search by role type and state to surface employers actively sponsoring in West Virginia's manufacturing, energy, and logistics sectors. This is more reliable than general job searches that don't distinguish between sponsoring and non-sponsoring employers.
What should international candidates know about operations lead roles and visa sponsorship in West Virginia?
West Virginia's economy is heavily tied to energy extraction, chemicals, and heavy manufacturing, so operations lead candidates with backgrounds in those industries have the strongest alignment with local employer needs. Because the state has a smaller labor market than coastal metros, many employers prioritize candidates who can demonstrate direct industry experience relevant to their specific operations. Prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program apply statewide, and employers must meet Department of Labor standards for the specific occupational classification and geographic area of employment.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored operations lead jobs in West Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
