THE ROLE: Where design thinking meets production code.
Promega is looking for a Front-End Designer & Developer who thrives at the intersection of craft and engineering. You'll shape the digital experiences researchers interact with every day — translating brand intent into intuitive, accessible, beautifully built interfaces across promega.com and our broader network of affiliated sites.
This isn't a role for someone who only wants to build, or someone who only wants to design. The ideal candidate moves naturally between both, comfortable in Figma and equally comfortable pushing pixel-perfect, production-ready code. You'll be a critical bridge between our brand and design team and front-end engineering, helping to steward and evolve Promega's front-end design solutions as our web platform grows.
You'll be joining a team that's actively investing in AI-powered web capabilities. If you're curious about what modern web development looks like when AI is part of the workflow, not a replacement for skill, this is that team.
Apply today and include a portfolio link. We want to see both the design thinking and the code behind it.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Maintain, update, and enhance CMS and web solutions for Promega-affiliated sites, and provide development/design support for Promega.com as needed.
-
Develop front-end features and components using modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React.
-
Build and refine templates, page layouts, and UI elements within content management systems such as WordPress and CraftCMS.
-
Create user interface designs, wireframes, and prototypes that support intuitive and positive user experiences.
-
Collaborate with internal partners to design and develop new content, pages, and user experiences that align with organizational objectives.
-
Ensure websites follow accessibility standards, performance best practices, and responsive design principles.
-
Troubleshoot front-end issues, coordinate resolutions, and implement improvements based on analytics and stakeholder feedback.
-
Apply strategic thinking to evaluate stakeholder requests, translate them into clear, actionable, user-centered solutions, and work independently to move projects from concept to execution.
-
Contribute to the evolution and consistency of design systems across supported sites.
-
Stay current with emerging web technologies, design trends, and AI-powered tools, and proactively incorporate them to improve development efficiency, user experience, and the overall quality of digital deliverables.
-
Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity and respect for others.
-
Embracing and being open to incorporating Promega’s 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.
-
Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
-
4–6+ years of professional experience in front-end development and UI/UX design.
-
Front-end development: HTML5, CSS3/Sass, JavaScript, and frameworks React and Tailwind.
-
CMS platforms: WordPress, CraftCMS, Sitecore or equivalent.
-
Design tools: Figma, including design tokens, variables, and component libraries.
-
Design system work: Experience maintaining and contributing to a shared component ecosystem.
-
UX fundamentals: Wireframing, prototyping, accessibility, responsive design.
-
Cross-functional collaboration: Comfortable working across design, dev, brand, and marketing teams.
-
Strong portfolio: Portfolio of design and development experience.
We're also interested in candidates with:
-
Web performance optimization and GEO/SEO knowledge.
-
Experience with analytics platforms such as GA4.
-
A strong visual design background that influences technical decisions, not just aesthetics.

Which companies in Wisconsin sponsor visas for creative designers?
Milwaukee-based corporations like Kohl's, Northwestern Mutual, and Johnson Controls have sponsored H-1B workers in design and creative roles. American Family Insurance in Madison and advertising agencies across both cities also have sponsorship track records. In-house creative teams at large employers tend to sponsor more consistently than smaller independent studios, which typically lack the legal infrastructure for visa petitions.
Which visa types are most common for creative designers in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common route, but it requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning the position must typically require a bachelor's degree in a specific design-related field. The O-1A is an alternative for designers with an exceptional portfolio, awards, or published work demonstrating distinction in their field. Australians may also qualify for the E-3, which has no lottery.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most creative designer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee and Madison account for the majority of creative designer sponsorship activity in Wisconsin. Milwaukee draws candidates through its concentration of corporate headquarters and mid-size agencies, while Madison benefits from proximity to the University of Wisconsin and a growing tech and startup sector. Smaller markets like Green Bay and Appleton occasionally post creative roles but have fewer documented sponsorship histories.
How to find creative designer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse creative designer roles in Wisconsin without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. Search by state and role type to surface openings at companies like Kohl's or Madison-area tech firms that have active sponsorship programs. Filtering this way saves significant time compared to manually vetting each posting.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for creative designers seeking sponsorship?
Wisconsin's Department of Workforce Development tracks prevailing wage data that employers must reference when filing Labor Condition Applications for H-1B petitions, meaning the offered compensation must meet federally defined wage levels for the Milwaukee or Madison metro area. Designers with university connections to UW-Madison or MIAD in Milwaukee may find more employer familiarity with OPT-to-H-1B transitions, as those institutions have active international student pipelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored creative designer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
