Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Product Safety Engineer
Highlight regulatory expertise
Emphasize experience with FDA regulations, ISO standards, UL certifications, or industry-specific safety protocols. Employers value engineers who understand compliance frameworks and can navigate regulatory approvals efficiently.
Target safety-critical industries
Focus on automotive, medical devices, consumer electronics, and aerospace companies where product safety is paramount. These industries have stronger business justification for sponsoring specialized safety engineers.
Demonstrate testing methodology knowledge
Showcase experience with FMEA, hazard analysis, risk assessment, and validation testing. Companies need engineers who can design comprehensive safety testing protocols and ensure regulatory compliance.
Position degree as specialty requirement
Frame your engineering degree as essential for understanding safety standards, failure analysis, and risk mitigation. This strengthens the specialty occupation argument required for H-1B approval.
Research company safety challenges
Study recent product recalls, safety incidents, or regulatory changes affecting target employers. Demonstrate how your expertise addresses their specific safety risks and compliance requirements.
Obtain relevant safety certifications
Pursue ASQ certifications, Six Sigma training, or industry-specific safety credentials. These qualifications differentiate you from general engineers and justify specialized visa sponsorship needs.

Find Product Safety Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a Product Safety Engineer?
You need a bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering. Some employers accept related fields like materials science or physics if combined with relevant safety experience. Australian three-year engineering degrees are typically accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year programs.
Which visa types work best for Product Safety Engineers?
H-1B is most common, with E-3 available for Australians and TN for Canadians/Mexicans. O-1 is possible for engineers with extraordinary achievements in safety innovation or regulatory leadership. The specialty occupation requirement is usually straightforward given the technical nature and degree requirement.
How to find Product Safety Engineer jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Product Safety Engineer jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers. Focus on manufacturing companies, consumer electronics firms, and automotive manufacturers that commonly hire Product Safety Engineers on H-1B, O-1, or TN visas. These industries frequently sponsor international talent due to specialized safety compliance expertise requirements.
Do Product Safety Engineers have good H-1B approval rates?
Yes, approval rates are typically strong because the role clearly requires specialized engineering knowledge and regulatory expertise. USCIS recognizes product safety as a specialty occupation, especially when tied to specific industry standards like automotive safety or medical device regulations.
Can I get sponsored without direct product safety experience?
Yes, if you have general engineering experience plus relevant coursework in safety, quality, or reliability engineering. Emphasize any exposure to testing, compliance, risk assessment, or regulatory processes. Certifications in quality management or safety standards can bridge experience gaps.
Which companies sponsor Product Safety Engineers most often?
Automotive manufacturers (Ford, GM), technology companies (Apple, Google), medical device firms (Medtronic, Abbott), and consumer goods companies regularly sponsor these roles. Defense contractors and aerospace companies also have strong sponsorship track records due to safety-critical requirements.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Product Safety Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
