Accountant Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a accountant job in Chicago?
Focus your search on the Loop and River North, where the highest concentration of accounting roles sits inside corporate headquarters, regional bank offices, and Big Four and mid-market public accounting firms. Chicago's large healthcare systems, insurance carriers, and manufacturing companies also hire heavily. Candidates with CPA credentials or progress toward them move faster through screening, and familiarity with Illinois sales tax and multistate compliance adds a real edge here.
Which companies hire accountants in Chicago?
Chicago accountant roles are posted by Fitch Ratings, Google, and Deloitte and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. The city's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, large regional public accounting firms, financial exchanges, and major hospital networks means demand comes from a wide range of employer types across the metro.
Are there remote accountant jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role: corporate general ledger, financial reporting, and FP&A positions have moved remote or hybrid more readily than tax compliance or audit roles tied to physical records and on-site client work. About 37% of accountant openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the highest remote share in industry accounting roles at large corporations headquartered downtown.
How can I get a accountant job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is landing a staff accountant or accounts payable role at a mid-size company in the suburbs or a regional firm in the Loop that actively recruits from DePaul, Loyola, Illinois, or UIC. Chicago's large hospitality, logistics, and healthcare sectors also hire entry-level bookkeepers and junior accountants who transition upward. Internship experience with any Chicago-area employer, even a small one, consistently outweighs GPA alone in local screening.
Which industries hire the most accountants in Chicago?
Chicago accountant roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Technology & Software, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's status as a hub for derivatives trading, insurance underwriting, and global logistics means these industries generate unusually high and consistent demand for accounting talent compared to most other U.S. metros.
