Accounting Intern Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting intern in Maine?
Most Maine employers require active enrollment in an accredited accounting or business program at an institution such as the University of Maine, the University of Southern Maine, or Husson University. Maine does not require a license to work as an intern, but candidates who have completed core accounting coursework and are on track toward the CPA credential through the Maine State Board of Accountancy stand out most in the hiring process.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Maine?
Maine accounting intern roles are posted by Hannaford, Parkhurst Dining, and Walgreens and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's mix of regional healthcare systems, public accounting firms, and state government agencies generates consistent intern demand across multiple sectors throughout the year.
Which Maine cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Portland, Kennebunk, and Auburn have the most accounting intern openings in Maine. Portland drives the largest share of listings as the state's commercial and financial hub, home to regional CPA firms, healthcare organizations, and corporate headquarters, while Bangor and Augusta generate consistent demand through state government offices, university affiliates, and established regional employers.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Maine?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields given the desk-based, software-driven nature of accounting work. About 39% of accounting intern openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how readily spreadsheet and software tasks translate to distributed settings. Roles focused on bookkeeping, financial reporting, and tax preparation tend to be the most compatible with remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured internship programs at Maine's large healthcare systems, state agencies, and regional public accounting firms, which routinely recruit students with no prior professional experience. The Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services and institutions affiliated with the University of Maine system periodically post paid intern roles open to first- and second-year students. Building proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks and completing at least one introductory accounting course gives candidates a concrete, demonstrable edge even without a work history.
Where can I find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Maine?
You can find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Maine on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your program, availability, and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
