New Business Development Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a new business development in Maine?
Most Maine employers hire new business development professionals with a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a directly related field. There is no state-issued license required specifically for this role in Maine. Candidates typically build credibility through a combination of formal education, internships with Maine-based companies, and demonstrated results in sales, account management, or client-facing roles. Earning a recognized certification in sales or business development can strengthen a candidate's profile with competitive Maine employers.
Which companies hire new business developments in Maine?
Employers hiring new business developments in Maine right now include MaineHealth, Sazerac, and MaineGeneral Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's mix of established anchor companies in healthcare technology, financial services, and consumer goods means new business development roles appear across a range of industries with different target markets and product types.
Which Maine cities have the most new business development jobs?
Portland, Augusta, and Lewiston account for the largest share of new business development openings in Maine. Portland drives the most activity as Maine's commercial center, home to corporate headquarters and regional offices across financial services, healthcare, and technology, while Bangor and Augusta generate steady demand through their roles as regional hubs for healthcare systems, state government, and professional services firms that rely on business development functions.
Are there remote new business development jobs in Maine?
Yes, and more than most fields, since new business development work is largely relationship-driven and often conducted by phone, video, and email. About 80% of new business development openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how widely employers have accepted distributed sales teams. Strategic account management and inside business development roles are the positions most commonly offered fully remote or on a hybrid schedule.
How can I get hired as a new business development in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a sales development representative or inside sales associate role with a Maine-based company, which serves as the primary on-ramp for the field. Employers like Idexx Laboratories and WEX have structured entry-level programs that train candidates without prior business development experience. Lateral moves from customer success, account coordination, or marketing roles are also common. Completing a recognized sales certification and building a portfolio of documented results from any client-facing work gives candidates a meaningful edge with Maine hiring managers.
