Sales Manager Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales manager in Maine?
Most sales manager roles in Maine require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field combined with several years of proven sales performance. There is no state-issued license specific to the sales manager title in Maine, though roles in insurance sales management require a Maine Producer License issued through the Maine Bureau of Insurance. Employers typically promote top-performing individual contributors or hire candidates who have led small teams in adjacent industries such as retail management or financial services.
How much do sales managers make in Maine?
Sales managers in Maine earn a median of about $158,660 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,280 for the lowest 10% to over $213,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales managers in Maine?
Employers hiring sales managers in Maine right now include Hannaford, AutoZone, and Milton Cat, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Maine's strong presence of regional insurers, grocery distribution companies, and building-supply chains means consistent openings across both consumer and B2B sales management.
Which Maine cities have the most sales manager jobs?
Portland, Brewer, and Windham account for the largest share of sales manager openings in Maine. Portland drives the most activity as the state's commercial center, home to financial services firms, healthcare organizations, and regional headquarters, while Bangor and Augusta generate steady demand through healthcare networks, state government contractors, and regional retail and distribution operations.
Are there remote sales manager jobs in Maine?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because most sales manager roles involve in-person coaching, territory coverage, and client visits. About 50% of sales manager openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which reflects that hybrid arrangements are more typical than fully remote. Strategic or national account management roles and inside-sales leadership positions are the most likely to offer remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a sales manager in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an associate or team-lead role from a high-performing individual sales position at a Maine employer such as Hannaford Bros., Unum Group, or a regional building-supply distributor. Many of these companies promote from within and value demonstrated quota achievement over a formal management background. Earning a Maine Producer License if you're entering insurance, or completing a CRM certification, signals readiness to lead a team and gives candidates a concrete edge during the hiring process.
Where can I find and apply to sales manager jobs in Maine?
