Insurance Sales Representative Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance sales representative in Maine?
You become a licensed insurance sales representative in Maine by passing a state-approved pre-licensing course and then the Maine producer licensing exam administered through the Maine Bureau of Insurance. Choose the line of authority that matches the products you want to sell, most commonly Property and Casualty or Life and Health. After passing the exam you apply for your Maine producer license through the bureau before you may sell or solicit insurance in the state.
Which companies hire insurance sales representatives in Maine?
Companies currently hiring insurance sales representatives in Maine include State Farm, Allstate Insurance, and Harrington Insurance Agency, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's concentration of regional carriers, independent agencies, and large self-insured employers such as hospitals and universities means consistent openings across both captive and independent distribution channels.
Which Maine cities have the most insurance sales representative jobs?
Bath, Eliot, and Bangor have the most insurance sales representative openings in Maine. Portland drives the largest share of listings because it is Maine's commercial center, home to corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and the state's densest population of small and mid-sized businesses, while Bangor and Augusta generate steady demand as regional hubs for healthcare systems, state government employee benefits, and community banking clients.
Are there remote insurance sales representative jobs in Maine?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because much of insurance sales involves in-person prospecting, client meetings, and local territory management. About 50% of insurance sales representative openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and the positions that go fully remote tend to be inbound telesales, Medicare supplement phone sales, or group benefits account management roles that do not require field visits.
How can I get hired as a insurance sales representative in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a licensed sales associate or customer service representative role at a Maine independent agency or a captive carrier office, where you study for and obtain your Maine producer license while working under experienced agents. Large Maine employers such as UNUM and Anthem run structured new-hire training programs for candidates without prior sales experience. Earning your Property and Casualty or Life and Health license before applying gives you a meaningful edge over unlicensed candidates competing for the same entry roles.
Where can I find and apply to insurance sales representative jobs in Maine?
You can find and apply to insurance sales representative jobs in Maine on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maine openings from carriers, independent agencies, and employer benefit departments across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your license type, preferred territory, and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
