Insurance Sales Representative Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an insurance sales representative in Texas?
You must obtain a Texas Department of Insurance license before selling any insurance product in the state. The path starts with completing a state-approved pre-licensing course for the lines you want to sell, typically Property and Casualty or Life and Health, then passing the corresponding TDI licensing exam. Most employers expect you to hold an active license before your start date, though some larger agencies will bring you on and sponsor your exam preparation.
How much do insurance sales representatives make in Texas?
Insurance sales representatives in Texas earn a median of about $51,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,140 for the lowest 10% to over $128,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire insurance sales representatives in Texas?
Employers hiring insurance sales representatives in Texas right now include State Farm, Liberty Mutual Insurance, and Farmers Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's size and population growth mean both national carriers and regional independent agencies post openings year-round, particularly for producers focused on personal auto, homeowners, and commercial lines.
Which Texas cities have the most insurance sales representative jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Amarillo are the Texas cities with the most insurance sales representative openings. Houston's concentration of energy and maritime businesses drives high demand for commercial lines producers, while the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex's corporate headquarters and suburban growth support a broad mix of personal and commercial roles, and San Antonio's large military and healthcare population generates consistent life and health openings.
Are there remote insurance sales representative jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since the role often involves in-person client meetings and community prospecting. About 25% of insurance sales representative openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and most of those involve inside sales or renewals-focused roles that operate primarily by phone and video. Field producer and agency-captive positions are almost always on-site or territory-based.
How can I get hired as an insurance sales representative in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a captive agency role with a carrier like State Farm or Farmers Insurance, which run structured onboarding programs that cover licensing, product training, and sales fundamentals for candidates new to the industry. Earning your Texas Department of Insurance license before applying puts you ahead of most applicants. Adjacent experience in retail banking, financial services, or customer-facing sales translates well, and many independent agencies in Texas hire licensed candidates with no direct insurance history for inside sales or service roles that build toward a full producer position.
Where can I find and apply to insurance sales representative jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to insurance sales representative jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from carriers, independent agencies, and brokerages across the state. Find a role that fits and apply directly.
