Insurance Sales Representative Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance sales representative in Illinois?
You must hold an Illinois Department of Insurance producer license before selling any insurance product in the state. The path starts with completing a state-approved pre-licensing course in your chosen line of authority, such as property and casualty or life and health, then passing the Illinois insurance licensing exam administered by Pearson VUE. Most employers expect candidates to obtain their license before or shortly after starting, and many large Illinois agencies reimburse exam fees for new hires.
Which companies hire insurance sales representatives in Illinois?
Illinois insurance sales representative roles are posted by State Farm, Farmers Insurance, and Marsh McLennan Agency and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of national carrier headquarters and a dense network of independent agencies means openings surface regularly across the full range of company sizes and product lines.
Which Illinois cities have the most insurance sales representative jobs?
Chicago, Wheaton, and Orland Park lead Illinois for insurance sales representative openings. Chicago dominates because it houses regional carrier offices and a large commercial lines market, while Peoria and Springfield attract steady hiring from State Farm's headquarters presence in Bloomington and the broader network of agencies serving central Illinois's small-business and agricultural clients.
Are there remote insurance sales representative jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles, since much of the work involves in-person client meetings and territory management. About 54% of insurance sales representative openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that some carriers now support remote quoting and renewals for existing books of business. The most remote-friendly positions tend to be in employee benefits consulting and inside sales roles focused on inbound leads.
How can I get hired as a insurance sales representative in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a large Illinois carrier or captive agency as a licensed sales trainee, where the employer typically covers your pre-licensing education in exchange for a production commitment. State Farm and Country Financial both run structured agent-development programs across Illinois that accept candidates without prior insurance experience. Backgrounds in retail sales, banking, or customer service translate well, and obtaining your Illinois property and casualty or life and health producer license before you apply gives you a clear edge over other entry-level candidates.
Where can I find and apply to insurance sales representative jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to insurance sales representative jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and preferred territory, and apply directly to each position without any additional steps.
