Field Sales Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field sales manager in Illinois?
Most field sales managers in Illinois move into the role after several years as a territory or outside sales representative, often within the same company. Illinois does not require a state-issued license for general field sales management, though roles in industries like insurance or real estate require the relevant Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation license. A bachelor's degree in business or marketing strengthens candidacy, and demonstrated quota achievement is typically the deciding factor in hiring decisions.
How much do field sales managers make in Illinois?
Field sales managers in Illinois earn a median of about $155,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,760 for the lowest 10% to over $282,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire field sales managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring field sales managers in Illinois right now include AT&T, Humana, and Sunrun, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of headquarters in the Chicago metro, alongside major manufacturing and healthcare hubs downstate, means openings appear across a wide range of industries and company sizes.
Which Illinois cities have the most field sales manager jobs?
Chicago, Schaumburg, and Arlington Heights have the most field sales manager openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because of the density of corporate headquarters, distribution networks, and professional services firms headquartered there, while Peoria and Rockford draw from Caterpillar's industrial supply chain and regional manufacturing and logistics employers that require dedicated field sales leadership.
Are there remote field sales manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're rare. Field sales management is inherently territory-based and requires direct contact with customers and in-person team coaching, so fully remote roles are uncommon by nature. About 58% of field sales manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most likely for internal account management or national account oversight roles where direct travel is less frequent.
How can I get hired as a field sales manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a territory sales representative role first, then building toward management. Large Illinois employers like Grainger, Baxter, and Medline run structured sales development programs that place early-career candidates into defined territories with mentorship. Moving from account executive, business development representative, or sales associate roles into a team lead or assistant manager position is a common bridge. Earning a certification from the Sales Management Association, which has a strong presence in Chicago, can also help distinguish a candidate without direct managerial experience.
Where can I find and apply to field sales manager jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to field sales manager jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across industries and metros. Find the roles that fit your experience and territory preference, then apply directly through each listing.
