Field Sales Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field sales manager in New York?
Most field sales managers in New York move into the role after several years as high-performing individual contributors in outside or territory sales. New York does not require a state-issued license for field sales management. Employers typically look for a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related discipline, along with a history of quota attainment. Candidates in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals or financial services may need FINRA licensing or product-specific credentials before managing a team.
How much do field sales managers make in New York?
Field sales managers in New York earn a median of about $217,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $107,670 for the lowest 10% to over $378,910 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire field sales managers in New York?
Employers hiring field sales managers in New York right now include Macy's, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major pharmaceutical companies, and enterprise technology firms makes it one of the deepest markets in the country for this role.
Which New York cities have the most field sales manager jobs?
Garden City, New York, and Syracuse have the most field sales manager openings in New York. New York City dominates due to its density of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and enterprise clients, while Buffalo and Albany generate consistent demand from regional distribution operations, healthcare systems, and state government contractors that rely on field sales teams.
Are there remote field sales manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Field sales management is an inherently field-based role that requires in-person team coaching, client visits, and territory oversight, so most positions carry a significant travel requirement. About 50% of field sales manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate the remote component on administrative and reporting duties rather than client-facing activity.
How can I get hired as a field sales manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is performing consistently as a territory or outside sales representative, then pursuing an internal promotion at a large New York employer. Companies such as ADP, Xerox, and major pharmaceutical firms operating in New York regularly develop top individual contributors into team leads and junior sales managers through structured mentorship programs. Earning a relevant credential, such as a FINRA Series 7 for financial services roles, signals readiness and expands the pool of employers willing to consider a first-time manager.
